Back to Work Waste of Time Update

Pros

None besides work from home Fridays

Cons

In May we were told we would return to the office on Mondays in June to push the “apprenticeship model” with our assistants and to increase productivity (???). We were then told we would all have a “business review” meeting with our planning teams every Monday. While this meeting already seemed like a waste of time because planners do not roll by class ladders until Wednesday , all buyers and assistants manage their own businesses, and quite honestly, planning isn’t much help to begin with. Now, after 2 months of the meetings, they have turned into best seller meetings or meetings spent recapping markdowns we already took. We send out a best seller report and fill out markdown recaps for a reason. There is no reason to waste our Monday discussing what is already done and what the buyers jobs are to handle. Planners do not even make relevant call outs or have questions, they just put their entire meeting on us. On the other hand, If buyers have issues that they need bubbled up during the meeting nobody has the authority to make any decisions. “We can’t do anything about that” is said countless times. It’s so clear that management is grasping at straws to find a reason to have us in the office on Mondays when there truly isn’t one.

Best decision I've made

Pros

Coming from a retail background, having a corporate job means having more balance between life & work. Everyone is very professional and they all want you to succeed in your role. Training doesn't stop in just a couple of weeks, they continue to train you and you continue to learn even after your 90 days. Gym access on campus is also a wonderful addition, you literally will not have an excuse to skip the gym after work. The Ross Cafe is also very convenient & Ross employees get 15% off. Employee discounts during double discount days is an amazing thing. Lastly, the room for growth and career progression is absolutely up to you and how far you want to go. If you explain that to your manager, she will help you get there.

Cons

Nothing so far! I pretty much enjoy working here, I'm constantly being challenged and work is never stagnant, you're always being pushed to your fullest potential and if you don't like that, then this place isn't for you.

Retail Leader Intern

Pros

I absolutely enjoyed my internship experience! The internship program is very well organized and they really do take care of their interns. In the short 10 weeks, I can confidently say that the internship experience prepared me for what it means to be a retail leader and manage a multi-million dollar store. I gained a better insight into managing an entire store of staff and merchandise, theft prevention, HR, hiring and onboarding, product placement and other related topics. Overall, great experience.

Cons

The only con is that you might work with and management unprofessional or unmotivated staff members. This can at times feel like babysitting. Other than that, I would say the experience was pretty great.
