Pros

I love the atmosphere. Positive energy. In the base that I work everyone is welcoming and makes you feel more like family than coworkers. We’re a growing airline and getting better each year. The health benefits & travel benefits are amazing and can’t be beat. Because we are growing so fast, seniority is easier to reach. I love having the ability to pick my schedule, work as much as I want or drop trips to take off as much time as I want. The flexibility is definitely one of my favorite things. There is also a lot of room for growth and moving up in the company as well.

Cons

The main con is that the company has a bad reputation- so whenever there is even a minor delay whether it be over weather or maintenance- we are the face of the company and we receive the backlash. We hear daily that “I’m never flying spirit again” and it’s usually over something minor- ie. running out of a certain snack, a ten minute delay- etc. With that being said- our company has improved so much within the last few years. Earning #1 on time departures, best low cost airline, etc. we are working hard to weed out the bad seeds and negative employees and hiring a lot of great people that better represent the company and our expectations.

Pros

- Company is growing like crazy so you will have high seniority in a short time which is so uncommon in the airline industry ( seniority is everything in the airline industry) - Currently have 70 planes but Spirit just purchased 130 more. - Great Travel benefits (Travel on pretty much any airline not just spirit for free on standby, some family members also fly for free on other airlines for a small fee) - VERY FLEXIBLE, Once you get your monthly schedule you can get rid of as many assignments as you want or add or trade them online (theres no limit) perfect for someone who is in school or has another job. - Brand new, Spacious Airbus airplanes. - The job is so easy because there is no first class or complimentary beverage services so you run through the cabin offering stuff for sale and then have the whole flight to chill. (perfect for someone thats in school or studying) - Very strong union - Have various bases that are really easy to get into (Bases in order from most senior to junior - Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Dallas, Chicago) - One of the best insurance plans for the airline industry. (I only pay 25$ a month for full Dental, Vision, Health and Medical) - AWESOME co workers (Most are younger people since its a newer airline) -Pay Raise coming soon - Spirit puts its flight attendants and pilots in some of the best hotels. (Even better then some of the international airlines) -Rarely see management - One of the most profitable airlines. - Flights go by smoothly because we charge for bags so theres no fuss about carry on items. -Ability to make a lot of money (By Onboard sales commission, Credit card advertisements...ect.)

Cons

- Passengers don't understand the business model so they tend to complain, thus causing Spirit to have a bad reputation. - Only flies in North America (not to Europe or Asia) - Don't always have the supplies at hand when needed (like Ice Scoops, or air freshener) - Because the union is so good there are some bad apples that are still around that should have left such a long time ago - Management is so small so its hard to get a response or get in contact when necessary. - Airplanes don't get cleaned like they are supposed to by the airports so you end up cleaning the cabin usually. - You usually have to fly on other airlines when traveling personally because the flights are always so full - No Commuter Clause

Pros

I love the crews I work with. People are friendly and pretty laid back. The benefits are some of the best in the industry. Flight benefits are great, and growing. There is quite a bit of schedule flexibility, and you gain seniority very quickly because the company is growing so rapidly. You get to choose your base. There is also a great sense of job security because the company is growing and because the flight attendants are protected by the AFA union. New management appears to be a positive influence that will produce some real and beneficial change to the company's employees and business. While much of the chaos/problem issues are still very present, things are definitely getting better, and will be more apparent to all staff/passengers sooner than later. Over all, it's a good starter airline, and while there are problems with the company, it's a good place to work, especially depending on your lifestyle/personal needs.

Cons

There is a lot of animosity towards the company from the public. As the first ULCC in America, patrons tend not to know/understand the company's mission/business model. So they buy a really cheap ticket on Orbits, and then get angry when they are hit at the gate with hundreds of dollars in fees to accommodate their luggage and when they are charged for food/beverages onboard. This causes a lot of problems for the gate agents and flight crew, as well. Company is working towards educating the public so they better understand and know what to expect. This unfortunately will take time. Gate agents are contracted workers, not Spirit Airlines employees, which causes a lot of problems. 1) The only thing they care about is getting the plane off the ground, regardless of issues of customer service, safety, or other employees. 2) While the flight crew works wonderfully together, it often feels as though the other labor groups in the company (the gate agents/management) are pitted pitted against one another. The company is going through some big transitions, and there is a direct lack of cohesiveness in the way of company policies. Uniforms, for instance, are clearly a hodge podge of old pieces from yesteryear when the brand was just another Red, White, and Blue company and makeshift articles pieced together by the flight attendants from stores like H&M. I believe the level of professionalism at Spirit Airlines is inferior to the major airlines in the industry. This encompasses the uniform/compliance aspect of the attendants, the behavior/attitude of attendants/gate agents, and especially, the level of customer service. The catering onboard needs a complete makeover. The options are far too limited and appear not to be targeted appropriately to the demographic.
