Pros

St. Jude's health benefits are amazing! To not have a cent deducted from my paycheck for coverage is unheard of. Their retirement benefits are also incredible with a 7% contribution regardless of my match. Then there is the time off. For my first year, I will received 15 vacation days along with 9 sicks days. All of that is incredible. But beyond that, I feel that the work environment, people I work with, and my managers care a lot about us. They care that our voices are heard and want to ensure that I can do my best work. I feel seen and heard by my manager. I also feel extremely connected to the mission of St. Jude and I think that inspire all of us to do good work.

Cons

Working at a nonprofit can have its challenges with funding and receiving the things we want sometimes can require patience.

Pros

1. Outstanding corporate mission and vision backed up by fantastic staff. Everybody seems to care and everybody likes working here. 2. Great benefit package and good work/life balance. The management wants you to be productive and in order to get there they want you to be a happy and healthy employee. Free on campus gym and "living well programs" are available. We get family sick leave, too. Seriously, I think our management actually likes their employees. 3. Modern, well equipped, easily accessible research facilities and core centers. If you need something specific to get your research done, you will probably be able to get it. 4. There is great research going on here, with a lot of collaborations between departments and outstanding seminar speakers from all over the world. 5. Well organized career development programs and good networking opportunities. 6. HR is friendly, competent and fast here. Yes, you read that right, the human resources department here HELPS you with your problems. They are just awesome. 7. Above average pay. Plus, a standard postdoc salary will allow you to afford a good life in Memphis. Memphis is a great place to live, especially with St.Jude benefit package. 8. Opportunities for promotions exist. People here respect talent and good work.

Cons

Not many cons, really. It is difficult to recruit new talent here, people don't want to live in Memphis, for no good reason. Can be political at times, but no where near as bad as in other places.

Pros

I can say that they have the BEST medical/dental/vision insurance policies of any organization where I've worked, in Memphis. The Administration at SJ really wants all employees to have work/life balance. To assist employees with this, they have a first class gym, on campus, with free membership to all employees. They offer group exercise programs or, you may choose to take an afternoon bike ride with other employees. And, the best surprise of all, we will occasionally receive "additional" days off on major holidays. Since Christmas is on a Monday this year (2017) we were also given the Friday prior as an additional holiday. And, they just increased the amount of vacation you get!

Cons

Wow, I cannot think of any cons about working at SJ. When I first began working at SJ, it sometimes would upset me if I saw a sick child. Now, after fully understanding the mission and seeing the ongoing efforts the doctors and researchers, I know SJ is the BEST place for the children facing these challenges.
