Pros

Please read if you are thinking about being a recruiter or educator thinking filling a position through Stepping Stone- I took a position with Stepping Stone after holding down a successful sales role for 5+ years with my previous company with the hopes of advancing my career and growing my skillset while bringing all the skills I learned to a new company. They seemed to have a tight-knit culture and although the turn over was high. The few that have been there a while seemed to really like it.

Cons

It did not take long to realize that the training program was non-existent, they had me shadow current employees and gave me a large manual to read (it’s out of date with their current systems by the way)- after that, you are on your own. Honestly- I feel as though this wouldn’t be that bad, I am a fan of “trial by fire”. Something I learned about sales is that you must be able to fail in order to learn and grow. As a recruiter for The Stepping Stone- I was responsible for trying to fill positions with qualified candidates- but then also meant to manage those that were placed with any needs they had concerning their employment. The problem was that oftentimes the clients who filled a position would call to ask questions related to their employment that should be directed to human resources but everything was so un-organized here that there was no way to connect them with support to get their questions answered. Let alone my own human resource questions. All my superiors that I asked to help either gave me a different solution to tell our clients or tried to pass the buck to ask a different department for the answer, it often seemed like there was no clear way to actually serve our clients with the assistance they needed outside of being placed for the positions we filled. I would not recommend working here if you want to be surrounded by the support you need to be successful as a recruiter. It is clear very quickly why they cannot hold on to top recruiters for more than a year. To those educators that are looking to fill a position- I would suggest thinking long and hard because in my time there- it seemed like there was more lip service than actual support for your important role within your schools.

Pros

Genuinely nice people, seems like a good company!

Cons

Also the nice people! too nice. Everyone grins & bears it, while every day is “Happy whatever-day-of-the-week it is!!!” tastes like Prozac. The constant rah-rah / cheerleading noises coming from management -despite not hitting goals- gets old real fast. There’s no urgency to help employees proactively get better, just “hit your dials” and “let us know if you need anything!” So lazy. The commission structure and sales-type incentives are nonexistent. No contests, no fun money being offered up. Do not expect more than “prizes” like cookies and tshirts, or $20 to Amazon, after you’ve busted your butt and uncovered 10+ new opportunities that week- bc recruiters can hardly fill the positions that are uncovered. And unless your job orders take priority, you won’t see a DIME until they do fill. This is essentially saying the opportunities you uncover are worthless until they are able to actually close them. There is currently no way of attributing CSC’s efforts in their CRM. Everyone else has this. Except Sales Coordinators, who have to manually keep track of all their own contributions in excel and by double-triple checking to see if their orders were filled. woohoo! Honestly it feels like they designed this position to purposefully neglect it. Legacy AE’s are too busy with their own territories to bother with any type of mentoring — and why would they? they’re cozy. Management’s philosophy on time-management consists of endless morning meetings all week and then collective scratching of heads when goal isn’t hit by Friday afternoon- AND THATS when they expect everyone to start working harder! Lol (example- Friday - 4:45PM - gchat: “alright team, let’s have an impromptu meeting to see who’s still paying attention!”) SMH It’s no wonder, with all these recent mergers and acquisitions boosting their stock portfolio, this company has lost what little soul it had. They’re actively trying to get bought out and it shows.

Pros

There was some learning that was valuable.

Cons

Shady business practices. I just want to find a company that will look out for the best interest of me and what I am looking for in my future. Management made me feel nervous constantly.
