IT is only held together by threads
Pros
Line employees try to get along and do their best with what is given to them to work with
Cons
Ancient technologies and outdated/unsupported IT equipment that we have to maintain to keep the business afloat. Always wondering what will break next or cause the next production outage. They’ve tried to bring in new IT leadership which has attempted to correct things over the years (Agile Development, JIRA and Confluence) These new IT leaders have attempted to make things more sustainable. However these process improvements are sabotaged by telling staff they don’t need to follow the scrum ceremonies. They try to recruit people by saying they are an IT company that sells clothes. However it’s a bunch of antiquated cobbled together systems using older tech (WinForms and Powershell fix scripts are the primary platforms for internal operations) Most IT staff are self taught on IT practices and prides themselves on half baked attempts to architect systems which fail miserably. There is little to no documentation on the systems either which makes it hard to bring anyone new up to speed. A lot of newer staff have left after realizing the tech stack and attitude of managers of just patching things together instead of looking how to make things better.
