Pros

It started off well - I arrived and people took an active interest, the CEO was like oh our spouses and families are important, they are supporters of our sacrifices here at Vorto, bring them in, show them around the office, we have company BBQ's. So I did, but senior leadership ignored them, and they soon after started ignoring me (I didn't feel personally offended, as this was the case with everyone - unless you were referred to as an OG, which stood for an Original employee). These Originals are treated like gold, they can do know wrong, and surprise surprise they are all software engineers. They do provide free dinners if you work late, but be careful, sometimes the engineering and product team try to do a sneaky order so they whole of operations don't order to, they try to save costs here, very unfair and dishonest.

Cons

Senior leadership take caffeine pills and energy drinks as soon as they arrive into work. My self worth dropped, a lot. Know one will provide you with any feedback, and all of a sudden you see people getting fired left right and centre. The HR team is really lovely and helpful, but now most of them all left (I don't blame them) and with an unhinged c-suite team I'm not sure who can help us here. One time a c-suite employee joked about flipping desks, wanting to be Elon Musk...another time we were all asked to scream Vorto out on the top of our lungs in support at a town hall (I mouthed the word). Someone wrote a review saying Bridgewater meets Telsa - what a joke! Every negative review I read wholeheartedly agree with. I feel bad for anyone who relocated for this job, don't sign a long lease lol. The amount of times I went to the bathrooms and found someone crying I could be a millionaire, its extremely sad. As I write this review I know its time to leave. You stay here because there are good people, we are ambitious, we are driven and we enjoy working with each other however due to poor planning, poor leadership and poor values (culture blog on the website is untrue - just sell your sole and you will be worshiped by the CEO). There is a huge boys club here. They joke about getting Vorto tattoos but I'm not sure its a joke anymore. You will work hard because they hire self-starters, just make sure that you don't lose yourself in the process, I have. Weekends are not sacred, get ready to be available on slack 24/7 - I sound like an alarmist but just ask anyone who works here outside of leadership, they will back me up. Its hard to work hard when you do not get competitive pay nor do you have anytime off to yourself, its all work and no play. A few people pride themselves on staying in the office to all hours, eating breakfast lunch and dinner here. People who live in the office, even if they are goofing off or sitting with their friends eating for two hours are viewed as better employees than those churning out work efficiently for 10 hours. This is my only regret in life, taking this job and working for Vorto!! Senior leadership is cruel and unjust, please do not make us laugh at others expense with you to keep our jobs.

Pros

Long work hours help you learn a lot.

Cons

I highly recommand to run away from this company and not get into their trap. This company is based on a toxic, abusive and manipulative leadership. I had never thought such a corrupted culture could be even existed in the USA. Here is grounds for my advice: 1) The hidden leadership principle at the company is "seven stages of grief". This is the guiding rule for the CEO. The CEO evaluates peaple where are they in the seven stages after conversation then design plans to abuse. If you join VORTO you will go through those seven stages of grief as well. 2) There is an abusive leadership who expects employees to work 14 hours a day, both on weekdays and weekend. Keep in mind that for exempt employees there is no overtime compensation. 3) Equity award is a big lie. Employees are fired or quit due to the hostile leadership. I know at least 10 great people who went through this and got nothing. 4) While lots of the work could be done remotely they want emplyees to be in office despite COVID concerns. They evaluate employees based on long working rather than hard working or achievements or business impact. 5) Micromanagent but no guidance. 6) They make stuff up to overschedule employees to ensure they have no free time to seek opportunities or prepare for interviews. 7) There is no priority management and everything need to be done as soon as humanly possible. Lack of priority management put lots pressure on employees. But remember this is also a leverage to exploit employees. 8) "win or die", "10x speed" and "changing the world" are motos only to manipulate employees. 9) Employees' task are treated as super important before it gets done and undermined once the task is done. Employees never recieve a written performace review. This is to ensure employees have no legal leverage against the company. 10) This is not a fit company for those who value their health. Unhealthy behaviors such as drinking too much of energy drinks or smoking are promoted. If you are not convinced to run away so far, here is my advice for the job candidates. 1) I highly recommend you to never accept an offer from this company without a few informational interviews with former employees. VORTO is a small company and former employees are not able to post reviews online as it easily reveal their identities and will hurt them further. 2) Think carefully before joining about your plan after this company and have a plan B. With high probability you will quit or get fired in less than a year. Think and prepare for your next job from day one. 3) Think about your plan after involuntary termination. Involuntary termination without notice will hurt your career a lot. It will take few month to find a new job since employers have concerns about why you were terminated and it takes a while to find an employer who give you the second chance. 4) Read other former employees' reviews on glassdoor and see number of likes they recieved. These long reviews and those likes are for a reason here, to help you make an informed decision. Be informed, be vigilent and be prepared.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all reviews and comments very seriously and we appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. Since January of 2022, the company has built a seasoned HR team to address some the concerns you have listed. It is my pleasure to let you know that we are currently investing in leadership, management, and individual contributor career development. We have recently established a formal performance review process. We are addressing any and all work/life balance concerns and will continue to improve our overall work culture. Currently, we have established an environment where employees are encouraged to bring all such concerns to HR in a timely manner so that they can be addressed accordingly.

Pros

- funded by Golden Gate Capital, deep pockets - cool office location near Union Station in Denver

Cons

- Leadership, especially at the very top, is obsessed with what they think is "hustle" but is actually just making hasty, shortsighted decisions and then getting everyone to spend excessive hours implementing them, only to find they were bad decisions that need complete rework. They don't have lives outside of work, and they expect the same from their employees. Don't have a life outside of work and you will do great here. - Try Googling "Gohawk Driver Reviews". That's the mobile app this company has produced since 2018 (sometimes under the name "Shaleapps", you have to wonder why they changed their name?). The reviews are horrendous. You can tell the real reviews vs. the fake ones that the company creates. It is the opinion of many reviewers that the technology doesn't work after years of trying. - The "Nutrition Facts" they use for recruiting are gibberish words that don't mean anything. It seems like they're just saying "make sure you're working all hours of the day and we want to see you at your desk to be sure because we don't trust you". They burn through employees at an alarming rate.
