Last week we hosted our 8th annual Moving Day fundraiser to raise money for the Parkinson's Foundation. It was a hybrid celebration this year featuring a virtual silent auction, bake sales at our Bay Area and St Louis offices, and a talent show with 9 amazing acts – singing, dancing, a skit, and even welding! Thank you to all our employees that volunteered and donated to make it a very special and memorable event.
As a Data Collection Scientist, Susana Tat works with internal and external stakeholders to develop surveys and online research tools. She also leads our data collection notification efforts to recruit research participants and improve overall research engagement. When asked about her favorite part about working at 23andMe, Susana shared, "The people are definitely one of the best parts about working at 23andMe. My coworkers are all brilliant and supportive. There’s a culture of collaboration and mentorship here I can tap into when I need help or guidance. I’m always learning from my colleagues." In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, Susana reflects on what it means to her: "Overall, this month is a time of reflection of our communities’ contributions and a celebration of our achievements throughout American history. Personally, it’s a reminder for me to intentionally learn more about diverse AANHPI stories, support local AANHPI-owned businesses, and appreciate aspects of my culture that have shaped me as an individual."
Our latest Tour de'23 stop was our biggest yet – a giant celebration for #DNADay in Times Square! Thank you to our incredible customers who shared their personal DNA stories as part of our panel discussion – Gina, Andrew, Jessica, and Tarin. And thank you to our guests who helped make it a party in NYC – Kunal Merchant, Joseph Jendrasik, Rocky "ROCK-T" Turner, Nikeva Marie, Shawn Perkins, Anthony David, DJ Popo, and AODO Dance Company. We explored the genetic insights into Health and Traits that make us unique, like ice cream flavor preference and muscle composition, and enjoyed celebrating the power of DNA with everyone. Stay tuned for more Tour de'23 announcements!
In celebration of our 17th anniversary, we hosted a panel with some of the longest tenured employees at 23andMe, hosted by our very own CEO and Co-Founder, Anne Wojcicki. Joyce Tung, Arnab Chowdry, and Igor Sviridov discussed how they first found out about 23andMe and why they joined the company, some challenges and wins during their time here, and some of their favorite memories. Happy birthday 23andMe!
Gabrielle is a vital part of our Lemonaid Health UK team (part of the 23andMe family) and the first point of contact for patients with questions about their orders. She’s also the link between patients and our UK medical team, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for everyone involved. Although she’s across the pond, we feel lucky to have her on our side, keeping our London office running smoothly and making patients feel heard and supported. Gabrielle loves being part of 23andMe, not just because of the work she does but because of the people she works with. We asked her what her favorite part was, and she without hesitation, mentioned, “the amazing company culture and all the fantastic people - they really make my day!”
23andMe employees attended the National #DNADay23 symposium hosted by The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) on Tuesday and had a chance to learn and interact with speakers addressing topics such as the history of the Human Genome Project. Our very own VP of Research, Joyce Tung, also spoke on a panel about careers in genomics and genetics.
In honor of #DNADay, our CEO and co-founder Anne Wojcicki shared how using genetics to personalize healthcare is still not being implemented into routine care – but believes it's within reach. “As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sequencing of the human genome, it’s important for consumers, healthcare professionals, and healthcare industry leaders to recognize the potential we all have with the adoption and integration of genetic data into routine healthcare. Ushering in more personalized healthcare is within our reach today.” This article originally appeared on Fortune.com https://lnkd.in/gyGaf5Bx
It’s #DNADay! This holiday commemorates the 1953 discovery of the structure of DNA - the iconic double helix that we all know and love. And this year is extra special because it’s also the 20th anniversary of the Human Genome Project's completion, so we’re celebrating with several hundred of our friends in Times Square. Whether it’s exploring your ice cream flavor preference or hearing from customers who were empowered after learning more about their DNA, our goal is to educate and inspire people around the incredible power of DNA.
We are looking for an exceptional Computational Biologist with extensive experience in machine learning and functional genomics to join our collaborative, cross-functional research team focused on the discovery of novel therapeutic targets and their development in our laboratories.
It's estimated that depression will affect 1 in 5 people in the U.S. throughout their lifetime. We released a new 23andMe+ Depression report (Powered by 23andMe Research) which helps individuals better understand their genetic likelihood for being diagnosed with depression. By empowering individuals with this information, we hope to continue to shine a light on the importance – and highly individualized nature – of mental health.
