Meet the rest of this year’s summer intern class! They are working across the company in roles with engineering, computational biology, statistical genetics, design, and IT. We are so happy to have them be a part of the #23andMeGenePool.
Our CEO and Co-Founder Anne Wojcicki recently talked to Andrew Le, MD of Buoy Health about the genesis of 23andMe, the importance of empowering individuals to participate in their own healthcare, and more. Check it out!
As part of our 23andMe+ membership, we released a new report powered by 23andMe research on HDL cholesterol. This report allows members to learn about their genetic likelihood of developing low levels of HDL (or “good”) cholesterol, a condition associated with an increased risk for heart disease. 23andMe is committed to fueling our customers’ health journeys on an ongoing basis because we know no one is ever done being healthy. That’s why we created 23andMe+, an annual membership that delivers exclusive reports and features throughout the year.
As a Senior Data Scientist, Simona Aksman’s role has three main components: develop tools to automate analytics, design and analyze experiments, and develop statistical and machine learning algorithms to improve our product. Simona is also part of 23andMe’s Femgineers ERG, a group for women in engineering to support each other. “I joined this group because I wanted to help foster a diverse and inclusive company culture. It’s been inspiring to see this group grow and become increasingly involved in driving DEI initiatives,” she said. One benefit at 23andMe that Simona is particularly thankful for is Volunteer Time-Off (VTO). She uses that time to work with the organization Gift Card Bank, a digital food bank started in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Simona has spent the past year volunteering and helping them develop and deploy a gift card matching algorithm that utilizes natural language processing.
23andMe is hosting a free webinar on COVID-19 research efforts Thursday, July 22 from 9 - 10:30am PST. The webinar will feature our Sr. Epidemiologist Janie F. Shelton, PhD and collaborator Andrea Ganna, PhD of the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative. https://lnkd.in/gh6hhKT
Our CEO and Co-Founder Anne Wojcicki is mission-driven, innovative and inspirational. That’s why it was no surprise that she was listed on Comparably's “Best CEOS for Women in 2021”.
Last week 23andMe employees were given time off for our summer “GENE-US Reset”. This is additional paid time off, along with our reset during the holidays in December. “The inspiration behind this was to give employees another opportunity to recharge and reset, and safely reconnect with family and friends. Especially in light of the many challenges of the past 18 months, 23andMe wanted to provide support for mental, emotional and overall wellbeing — and this week off in July was a meaningful way to do that,” said 23andMe’s Senior Benefits Manager, Krizel Casanova. Check out what some of our employees were up to on their week off.
Meet some of our new summer interns. This marks our fourth year of the summer internship program and we could not be more excited to welcome them to the #23andMeGenePool! Stay tuned — later this summer we will highlight the rest of this year’s class.
A little over a year ago, we made a commitment to embody respect and transparency so we can provide opportunity for all: our employees, our community and our customers. Although that journey is far from over, we’ve been working tirelessly to make our product, our community and our company more diverse, equitable and inclusive. Learn more about the actions we’re taking.
Congrats to our CEO and co-founder Anne Wojcicki on being named one of the top 50 healthcare technology CEOs of 2021 by Technology Innovators Media Group LLC!
