We recently updated our Ancestry Composition Report to offer more insights into customers’ ancestral origins. Many customers with Spanish and Portuguese ancestry can now trace family connections to new genetic groups in Spain (including the Canary and Balearic Islands) and Portugal (including groups in the Azores). Along with each population, customers can explore new content for even deeper insights into their ancestry and the history of the people of the Iberian Peninsula.
We dosed our first patient for the Phase 2a portion of our Phase 1/2a study evaluating 23ME-00610, an investigational antibody targeting CD200R1 in patients with advanced solid malignancies.
During Black History Month, members of our Black@23andMe Employee Resource Group shared their perspectives on working in biotechnology, a field where representation is still sorely lacking. Thank you to Eloycsia Ratliff, MPH, Shaeloren Deering, APRIL WARD, LaMeisha Dubose, Liz Babalola, and all other Black@23andMe ERG members for bringing awareness to the resiliency and community needed to drive meaningful change in this space.
This #RareDiseaseDay, we stand with those who more often than not have to endure what is a long and isolating journey. Our Rare Disease Research Study offers an incredible opportunity to help fuel treatment discoveries for a dozen rare diseases by combining genetic and phenotypic data from millions of participants who have consented to participate in research. Learn more about how to support those living with a rare disease, like Dima, who was diagnosed with essential thrombocythemia after years of misdiagnosis.
As part of Black History Month, employees got to hear from a panel of members from our Black@ Employee Resource Group. The event was moderated by Tosha Studmire (she/her), and featured Curtis Midkiff, Jr., Ayanna Ajilore, MBA, APRIL WARD, and Martin Kinisu, PhD. They discussed their own experiences in the workplace, tips for overcoming challenges, and what it is like to be a minority in the biotech industry.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re reflecting on our efforts to address the disparities in biomedical and genetic research for people of African ancestry. Over the past year we have focused on sickle cell disease and a rare condition called sarcoidosis, both of which impact the Black community at higher rates than other populations. We hope these programs not only increase awareness of these conditions, but also improve the lives of people living with them through potential treatment discoveries.
As Pharmacy Office Administrator, April manages all types of orders for our Pharmacy and Patient Support Team, including office supplies, snacks and beverages, and engagement supplies. She also handles the monitoring of the pharmacy’s expenses, monthly reporting and reconciliation. One of her favorite responsibilities is helping to create and execute employee engagement activities in-house and at outside venues. April has been with 23andMe since we acquired Lemonaid Health, where she started as a pharmacy technician. Over time, she has taken on more administrative responsibilities and moved up to the role of Pharmacy Organizer Lead and eventually Pharmacy Office Lead.
