As one of Boom Supersonic's suppliers, ATI will supply advanced high-temperature materials and components for Boom's Symphony engine, including high-pressure compressor integrated blade and disk stages, and turbine disk, supporting their mission to build the world's fastest aircraft
ATI is soaring with specialty stainless steel for the Vulcan Centaur V fuel tank
More than 150 years after its founding, ATI has transformed its Vandergrift Operations to become one of the most advanced materials finishing operations of its kind. Significant investments have catapulted the operations into the future. The Vandergrift expansion was the last major step in ATI’s transformation of Specialty Rolled Products to be a leader in high quality titanium and nickel-based alloys. Consolidating production from five other locations across the ATI system created a more competitive flow path at Vandergrift focused on increasing production of high-value, differentiated materials.
Saving Lives Starts with Melting ATI is honored to partner with Confluent "in producing what is literally a life-saving material,” said Rob Foster, President of ATI’s Specialty Alloys & Components business. “We appreciate the value Confluent places on our expertise and capabilities as the industry leader in Nitinol production. Confluent’s investment in ATI’s growth will ensure the stable supply of Nitinol the industry needs for growth.” The expansion at ATI’s Millersburg, Oregon facility is expected to come online in 2027.
Ten Years Rolling Strong. ATI’s Hot Rolling and Processing Facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, PA plays a crucial “roll” in metal processing technology. Uniquely designed to incrementally reduce the thickness of various materials, the HRPF set new standards in the industry when it was commissioned in 2014. Ten years later, it’s rolling strong, delivering highly diversified specialty materials for the aerospace, defense and energy markets. Capable of rolling up to 1.9MM tons per year, the HRPF processes titanium, nickel, zirconium, specialty stainless, and carbon steels into coils, sheets and plates. And it delivers those in grades and sizes that no other facility can match.
At Manufacturing Inspiration Day in Muskego, WI, the ATI Forged Products team showed students the many career opportunities available at ATI. Students gained firsthand experience making their own “forgings,” learning how different materials behave under pressure and within diverse circumstances. It’s an important part of how our materials are Proven to Perform in a variety of demanding environments. A special thanks to our team for engaging and coaching the next generATIon!
ATI is honored to have hosted the Washington County Manufacturers Association at our Washington Plate facility in Washington, PA in early 2022. Plant manager Scott Armstrong showcased our capabilities in producing specialty metals that are found in applications ranging from aircraft structures and rockets to oil pipelines, tank armor and medical implants. We’ve been part of the Washington, PA area since 1901, and are privileged to continue to be a part of the community!
In 2010, ATI partnered with the cities of Albany and Millersburg, Oregon, to design and bring to life an engineered water treatment wetland. Named Talking Water Gardens, the scenic waterfalls, trails, and ponds stretch over 37 acres. The environment is constructed to mimic natural processes which clean and cool water within nature. Talking Water serves as the final stop for treated wastewater before it is fully renewed and discharged back into the Willamette River. The project serves as yet another example of ATI’s efforts to recycle wastewater in all facilities, resulting in more than 7 billion gallons of water recycled in total in 2021. Manufacturing jobs are being created in Western Pennsylvania as ATI partners with Hyde Park’s historic foundry to process coils and other metals for shipment. As ATI’s multi-million-dollar expansion at our Vandergrift location continues, its location compared to Hyde Park proves advantageous. With both Route 28 and a rail line located essentially in the foundry’s backyard, moving material will be both efficient and effective. Employees working at the foundry, established in 1895, have expressed excitement in seeing it newly renovated and providing jobs for local workers. Each year, ATI Specialty Materials employees and their families help those in need during United Way’s Day of Caring. The Day of Caring projects involve activities such as lawn care, weeding flowerbeds, pruning shrubs, picking up trash, washing windows, and light painting. The majority of project sites are at homes of the elderly. “It’s very heartwarming to see the impact it has on others. I have multiple memories of those smiling faces and just the continuous acts of appreciation,” says Tim Wiggins, ATI’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “We come in and clean up, we do the work that’s needed, and there’s always this gratefulness that’s expressed by those we’ve served that’s almost beyond description.” Learn more about ATI’s participation in the Day of Caring here: https://atimetals1.wistia.com/medias/vmhtedxgim
