Meet Tommy, a Principal Technical Program Manager đź‘‹ We asked him to share more about his experience entering the technology industry: "I retired from the Air Force in 2012 after 20 years of service. After working in their Supply Chain IT PMO early in my career, I was asked to come back and consult on various projects from building business cases, conducting requirements workshops to testing software. I then went on to earn my Project Management Professional designation and accepted a PM position. My proudest accomplishment was leading the modernization of the 55+ year old mainframe system that I first used in 1992 as a young Airman. We saved the Air Force $25M in annual infrastructure costs! Over the course of the next few years, I have led supply chain modernizations, built data centers, launched a Robotics Fulfillment Center and then recently became a Technical Program Manager."
Akamai is introducing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) to further support the wellbeing of our employees. Let's meet Deb, Senior Director of HR, in Asia Pacific Japan and India, to tell us more: "Our Wellness programs are aimed at assisting employees on keeping healthy in many areas of our lives and MHFA is another part of this puzzle. It teaches ways to look for signs where someone may be experiencing issues with their mental health and what to do to assist them. This is a program goes across all industries and roles and will also be helpful in peoples day to day lives outside Akamai. The MHFA program provides a simple process to do this effectively." The training will prepare first aiders to use a five-step action plan to provide MHFA, a group will be trained to act as the first aiders for the EMEA region.
Meet Mujtaba 👋 a Software Engineer based in 📍 Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We caught up with him to learn more about his experience and what made him join Akamai: "In 2021, I joined for two internships in the summer and fall. This gave me the opportunity to work with an amazing team and understand the company's vision. This spring, I joined Akamai full time as a Software Engineer - II. From my degree, Cybersecurity, Distributed Systems & Networking were always some of my key interests. With Akamai as a market leader in CDNs, Security, and the world's Largest Distributed System – they were always one of my top companies I aspired to work for. Plus Akamai's commitment to work toward a zero carbon Internet & protecting life online by helping billions of people live, work, and play safe has always fascinated me."
Around this time, many in China and Japan have a period of time off for Golden Week, as many national holidays fall during the same week. We asked Zoe, a Senior Solutions Engineer to share more: "Labor Day Golden Week began on May 1st and was reintroduced in 2019 after a discontinuation in 2007. The Chinese government aimed to recover the customs associated with traditional festivals and balance tourist demand during the holidays. With Labor Day falling on May 1st each year in China, together with weekends and switched working days, it becomes a five-day holiday, this year from from April 30th to May 4th. This year, due to the COVID situation in China, I plan to continue working on my reading list. Usually, I would return to my hometown to reunite with my family for this long holiday. Last year, my father’s Lunar birthday fell on the holiday so we celebrated and enjoyed ourselves at a traditional local restaurant. Spending time with my family is always my favorite activity during this week. So hopefully, the COVID issue will be smooth, and I can go home in the next holiday!"

They always convey gratitude for all the information we share with them explaining how we do it. In one occurrence, I shared with a customer about why our data access risks and the types of data we process was low, the customer was very grateful that we already had all the answers and made the documentation required by him publicly available.
