Atrium Health teammates and the communities we serve come from many different walks of life. The Enterprise Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) wants to make sure those differences are not only seen but celebrated. The DEI Online Calendar was created to do just that! Each month, we recognize cultural observances, key events and even highlights of groups within Atrium Health that help celebrate the diverse backgrounds many have within our health care system. As our first Culture Commitment states, We create a space where all Belong, and the launching of this calendar is another space to help our teammates and surrounding communities feel like they belong. Atrium Health registered nurse Angie Alexander helped create the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program for the system in 2007. A SANE nurse undergoes extensive training and certification to provide expert care to victims of sexual abuse, while collecting evidence and connecting patients with community resources, such as a sexual abuse counselor. Over the course of nearly two decades, her determination and advocacy have led to the growth of our program, as other hospitals have been eliminating this service. Angie has helped countless victims of sexual assault and continues to advocate for victims’ rights. Inspired by many women she works with, Angie says she uses those experiences and lessons to help the next generation of women succeed and achieve greatness – making a difference with every patient interaction. #WomensHistoryMonth
Atrium Health’s System Resource Groups (SRGs) are comprised of teammates who join together in the workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences. SRGs support workforce engagement, retention, and professional development and actively represent Atrium Health in our communities. These groups leverage their cultural expertise to advance the mission and goals of Atrium Health. SRGs bring value to our workplace, support our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and further our mission. Atrium Health currently has eleven system resource groups; learn more about each one.

We are grateful for your service and commitment to excellence. #BlackHistoryMonth #TeammateSpotlight
Leading a hospital system of 70,000+ teammates through a pandemic is no easy feat, but for Atrium Health Vice President and Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Katie Passaretti, it has been her reality for the last three years. She was educated and spent many of her early years in practice at Johns Hopkins Hospital, before joining what is now Atrium Health in 2011. Dr. Passaretti continues to see patients, as well as working on policies that help keep patients and teammates safe. During #WomensHistoryMonth we honor Dr. Passaretti for her expertise, her compassion and her continued commitment to keeping patients, teammates and our communities safe. She is a bright light and an inspiration to so many.
This #WomensHistoryMonth, we are spotlighting teammates who embody Atrium Health’s “for all” mission. Today, we celebrate Peggy Harris for her dedication to our health system. Peggy began her career with Atrium Health 29 years ago as a nurse director. Since then, she has held multiple leadership positions and is now the regional chief diversity officer for the greater Charlotte region. Peggy oversees the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy execution and advances Atrium Health’s diversity goals and objectives. We are honored to share that Peggy is an Atrium Health Pinnacle Award recipient, one of the highest teammate recognitions awarded to a select number of individuals who exemplify Atrium Health’s culture commitments. She was also recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as a “Top 40 Diversity & Inclusion Executive to Know in 2022.” “The ladies whom I admire and who inspire me lead with integrity and respect, and seem to always be able to offer a kind word.” While these are Peggy’s words, we are inspired by her leadership and commitment.

Stacey is an LPN at Atrium Health Cleveland who appreciates the important role she plays at her work, “I enjoy being an LPN at Atrium Health because of all the experience I receive and the great staff I work with every day.” Stacey also shares that “Atrium Health also has a lot of great benefits that can help you advance your career.” Stacey became an LPN initially because of her love for health care and connecting with patients. Currently, Stacey is taking advantage of our EdAssist benefits to pursue an LPN to ADN program at Cleveland Community College.
Atrium Health is proud to be an organization primarily made up of women – roughly 8 in 10 of our teammates in the Charlotte area are female. This #WomensHistoryMonth, we celebrate our teammates who make Atrium Health a leader in health, learning, and community. Throughout March, we will celebrate our female colleagues and share their inspiring stories.
