Carmen says she is inspired by many Black trailblazers, but especially by businesswoman Carla Harris. “Her wisdom, words and work ethic have established a blueprint for how I approach my own professional and personal decisions.”

February is #BlackHistoryMonth. Although it’s important to celebrate African American history year-round, Atrium Health is spotlighting a few teammates during the month to celebrate their contributions to making our communities a better place for ALL. Marcus Kimbrough is with the community and social impact team, working diligently to help increase access to health care, food security, and housing opportunities in many underserved communities. Marcus says he is inspired by Arthur Ashe, not only because of his athletic abilities and his many “firsts,” but for his courage to face his HIV diagnosis head-on in the public eye, ultimately founding the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health.
Meet Paulo, a Rehabilitation RN at Atrium Health. Paulo has built a well-rounded life for himself in Charlotte as a karate instructor, avid hiker and valued member of Atrium Health. "Charlotte has been my home since I’ve moved from the Philippines. I have met countless people and friends throughout my life. It has taught me how to be open-minded on everyone’s culture and beliefs, especially working at Atrium Health, which has also taught me the values of patience, respect and confidence in dealing with peers and patients."
