We had the pleasure of hosting Assemblymember Evan Low at our Palo Alto office where he and Chris Urmson discussed how we can work closely with the California Legislative Technology and Innovation Caucus to create policies that will continue to foster jobs and innovation in the state.
"It’s rewarding to build hardware when you know it will be infused with best-in-class software." - Sandor Barna, our new VP of Hardware. Here’s more about how his expertise bringing products to market will help us deliver the Aurora Driver:
Our robust perception system identifies and tracks objects of all shapes and sizes that move at various speeds, enabling our cars to make complicated maneuvers. In this video, the Aurora Driver needs to understand the state of pedestrians, cyclists, changing traffic lights, and other dynamic parts of the environment as it makes unprotected turns. Here’s how it works: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vML1K
In our latest “Women of Aurora" series, we chat with Tiffany from our Vehicle Operations team. Learn more about how she partnered with a local motorcycle club to collect data about how our cars see motorcycles in different types of complex situations.
Aurora's values inspire the work we do and guide how we do it. Melissa Froelich from Aurora's Government Relations team highlights “Win Together” and how it drives her work. "'Win together' means teamwork. From my time as a Division 1 collegiate swimmer to serving on Capitol Hill and now working at Aurora, teamwork has always given me a sense of purpose and community that is crucial to success. I dive in head first when I truly believe in a team, which is why I decided to take the plunge and move from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh to join Aurora.”
We were pleased to host alumni from the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University at our Pittsburgh office. Our CTO Drew Bagnell welcomed the group and introduced SCS new Dean Martial Hebert.
Our mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology to people everywhere and we’re honored to be recognized by the Consumer Technology Association as Startup of the Year. We accepted our award in NYC and shared more about our mission and how we’re building the Aurora Driver. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMDgX
Perception systems can struggle to categorize objects they haven’t seen before. We’ve addressed this issue by designing our system to track all objects, even ones it doesn’t recognize. We call this approach “no measurement left behind,” and it’s one of the ways we ensure our vehicles drive safely.
We’re excited to announce another blog series! “Aurora Voices” profiles Aurorans from all backgrounds and shares their personal and professional stories. With Veterans Day around the corner, we’re honored to begin with Steven Lin, a former US Army Reservist and a two-year veteran of Aurora’s Vehicle Operations team. Read on to learn about Steven’s military experience and his advice to veterans interested in pursuing a career in self-driving cars. Finally, Happy Veterans Day to all those who have served, and those who continue to serve. Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and your service.
