What is it like to work on our Digital and Technology team? Bennett Ryynanen January 21, 2022 We sat down with Lisa, a Software Engineer on our Recommendations Team, to learn about her Best Buy career experience. “One thing that is very fun as a software developer in general is solving problems. You feel very satisfied,” she explains. There’s never a shortage of opportunities for Lisa to share her insights. “Digital and Technology basically makes up the entire organization’s website team. That can include the mobile app, it can include the browser, bestbuy.com. For my team, we help customers find relevant products, and my job in particular is to make those recommendations more relevant and more useful.” When asked about Best Buy’s culture, Lisa shared, “There is a lot of collaboration on pretty much everything. We’ll start any problem that we have as a team. We’ll face a challenge head on and go into a meeting room and whiteboard out all the possible solutions that anyone can come up with, and then maybe talk through what the best option is.” Check out Lisa's video to learn more.
Best Buy has been named to the 2022 JUST 100 list, recognizing companies for doing right by all of their stakeholders, including our employees, customers, communities, and the environment. This is the second year in a row we’ve made this top 100 list, which evaluates and ranks nearly 1,000 of the largest publicly traded companies in the United States. JUST Capital and its partners compile the annual list by polling 3,000 Americans to identify the stakeholders and issues they think companies should focus on most, and then evaluated companies based on what respondents agreed should be prioritized. Once again, this year’s list took a closer look at how companies are supporting their employees – including pay, health and safety, benefits and work-life balance, training, and cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. Boy reunited with wallet thanks to store superhero in Alaska A few days before Christmas, retail supervisor Nevin Sandau was cleaning up his store in Anchorage, Alaska. He noticed a vintage Spider-Man wallet in the lost and found bin. Curious about finding the wallet’s owner, he opened it to see what was inside. “There was $45 dollars in cash, a Christmas list and a baseball photo of a boy with tiny plastic glasses on,” Nevin said. He took the photo out, flipped it over and found the boy’s name and a phone number. Determined to get the wallet back into the boy’s hands, Nevin called that day and left a voicemail. Record number of Best Buy employees run in the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend. David Garcia felt a piercing pain in his left knee at mile 3 of the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend last Saturday. But he kept going, determined to finish the full 26.2 miles with the support of his family and Team Best Buy. “I rounded the corner, and there’s the Best Buy team cheering me on,” said David, vice president of retail operations and profit protection. “It made me happy to see them.” He was one of a record 18 members of Team Best Buy who showed up in Tennessee’s second-biggest city with two goals in mind: to fundraise and finish. It was the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit that runners could be there in person. With different running backgrounds, participants had the option to run a full marathon, half marathon, 10K or 5K race. And there was more to the weekend than just pounding the pavement. Best Buy has a longstanding relationship with St Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, and we help raise money every holiday season during the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign.

'I never thought I'd be a dad': One family's parenthood journey Editor’s note: This story discusses miscarriage and fertility struggles. It’s estimated that about 140,000 children are adopted by American families each year. In August, Best Buy employee Mike Mamula and his wife, Shay, became one of those families with the adoption of their first child, Bodhi. “In a million years, I never thought I’d be a dad,” Mike said. “I thought I was going to end up being the fun uncle to all my best friends’ kids.” For Mike and Shay, the road to parenthood was a long one. The couple had been trying to conceive since 2017. After countless rounds of tests on both Mike and Shay and many 10-hour, roundtrip drives to the nearest fertility clinic from their home in Rapid City, South Dakota, they decided to pursue intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedures. When those didn’t take, the couple explored in vitro fertilization (IVF).
