Congratulations to CHRISTUS Children’s for being recognized again as a Magnet-designated facility, achieving the gold standard in nursing excellence! First awarded in 2018, we received re-designation they are one of only 52 children’s hospitals globally to achieve this honor! Magnet designation, awarded by the ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program, measures the strength and quality of nursing programs. CHRISTUS Children’s is the first and only freestanding hospital in San Antonio dedicated to children and pregnant women, and the only one in south Texas with this designation.
We are thrilled to announce CHRISTUS Health is a 2023-2024 AmeriCorps federal grant recipient! The grants provide millions of federal dollars to nonprofit organizations like ours with a goal of addressing social challenges and strengthening local communities. We're excited to introduce the Northeast Texas Cancer & Research Institute – a new collaboration between CHRISTUS Health and Texas Oncology that will provide comprehensive cancer care to the Northeast Texas region. By bringing all aspects of cancer care together, we are making it easier and less stressful for patients to receive the care they need, and more convenient for family members to support them.
COVID-19 response from CHRISTUS Health We want to be perfectly clear – our hospitals, emergency rooms and physician offices are open, safe and here for you. While COVID-19 is new, our processes and procedures in place for infection prevention and preventing the spread of illness remain the same. As we continue to learn more about the effects of this virus, the expansion and creativity of coming up with more ways to keep you and your family safe are constantly top of mind. The latest example of that involves our ground-breaking antibody test that can detect who has been infected with COVID-19—AND—who might now carry protective antibodies. This additional layer of screening will help us survey for asymptomatic COVID-19 infections among inpatient and urgent surgery patients. CHRISTUS is the first in our communities and is leading the nation in using this advanced method of screening. The safety of our patients, Associates and physicians is our top priority.
About 300 local Dallas residents will receive Christmas gifts this year from CHRISTUS Health Associates! Catholic Charities identified almost 300 members of the community in need of some Christmas cheer and CHRISTUS Health Associates chose anonymous “angels” from a Christmas tree to help make their holiday a little brighter.
Welcome Home, Chris! We are so pleased to welcome Chris Karam, FACHE, as the new President & Chief Executive Officer of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Health System! Chris will also serve as Senior Vice President of Group Operations for CHRISTUS Health ministries in Louisiana and Southeast Texas. Chris was born at CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and raised in Oakdale. He has over 35 years of experience in health care, a number of which were spent at CSFC. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, TX, during which time the hospital earned numerous accolades and awards, including U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital in Texas in 2016 and 2017. Our CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini family looks forward to Chris’ dedication and passion for the area and people. We are excited for the future of health care in Central Louisiana, and welcome his positive and encouraging presence.
