CHS and the CHS Foundation are committed to developing ag leaders for life. We're achieving our goals through strategic initiatives to advance understanding of the cooperative business model, cultivate student success through university partnerships and grow ag leadership programs.
From the Washington mountains to vast Kansas prairies to the rich farmland of Illinois, CHS ag retail business units dot the map, serving more than 450 communities. These locations offer a variety of products and services backed by advice from local experts. Each of the 25 ag retail business units look to the leadership of their senior director of operations. These individuals work closely with their local producer boards, employees and all areas within CHS to bring value to local farmer-owners and customers. Evan Fust is the senior director of operations for CHS High Plains based in Yuma, Colo., and CHS United Plains Ag based in Sharon Springs, Kan. From assisting in the elevator during harvest to representing CHS at community events, he creates connections with farmer-owners, customers and communities every day and is an advocate for the power of cooperatives.

Safety is a core value at CHS. Our environment, health and safety (EHS) team plays a crucial part in keeping safety the top priority in the work we do. Tom Brower leads our EHS team. "We're accountable for helping employees understand and operate with safety in mind, “ he says. "The key is to create a culture that identifies the risks involved with the work being performed, whether that involves grain handling, driving, oil production or other functions, and work to ensure employees have controls in place to protect themselves and others against safety risks." Our facility in Myrtle Grove, La., hosted an event celebrating Black History Month and the importance of diversity and inclusion. It was organized by one of our employee resource groups, Mozaiko, and leaders at the facility. The group brought in J’Quincy Jones Sr., from Sweet Jones Farms near Baton Rouge, to speak to employees. Also known as “Farmer Jones,” he's a first-generation farmer and promotes equity for African Americans in farming (he’s in the center of the photo). “These events are important to our value of inclusion at CHS,” says Kareen Lucas, Mozaiko co-lead. “Mozaiko will continue to collaborate with different people and CHS locations to help build a sense of belonging.”
