The culture of a company matters. Our interns across CHS this summer are seeing that firsthand, whether they joined us at our headquarters or work from one of our many locations. CHS President and CEO Jay Debertin says it's an advantage in the eyes of both interns and employees. "We're collaborative, engaging and transparent in a way that people really find refreshing in a corporate environment," Debertin says in the video clip below. "It's one of the reasons why people that join CHS like it so much. Because it is a way of operating that people really align with."
There's a lot of positive momentum in sustainability in agriculture, says Courtney Hall, who recently joined CHS as director, climate and reporting initiatives. "Sustainability is not new to CHS," she says. "What’s new is we are building and strengthening the foundation and taking an enterprise approach." Hall notes that sustainability is a journey. "We don’t know what the future holds for us, but we want to be at the table shaping our future." Hear more from Hall about how CHS is positioned to help create a more sustainable world:
Local food banks are struggling to meet community needs as rising food costs strain family budgets. Dan Andersen, the chair of the CHS Harvest for Hunger campaign, says rural communities have rallied to help local food banks address hunger. “Our farmer-owners, employees and communities are making fantastic contributions to improve the vitality of rural America. CHS is proud to be part of this charitable network,” Andersen says, in the latest episode of the "Around the Table" podcast. The Harvest for Hunger campaign is an effort led by CHS to raise dollars and food for food-related charities across rural America. Since 2011, the campaign has donated more than $8 million and 4 million pounds of food to charitable organizations. Learn more about this year's Harvest for Hunger contributions.

With cooperative spirit a core value at CHS, we’re proud to support a culture of volunteerism across the company. Since 2012, CHS employees have received paid time off to volunteer. Whether they do something on their own or with a team, it makes a difference in communities around the world. Throughout the year, CHS provides several opportunities for employees to give back. CHS Spirit of Service Days, CHS Harvest for Hunger and the CHS Giving Campaign are a few ways CHS employees come together to make a difference, but many teams and individuals find their own ways volunteer in their communities. Thank you to the thousands of employees who volunteer each year to support the communities where we live and work! How are you volunteering your time?

Agriculture extends well beyond the farm. More than 21 million jobs in the U.S. are linked to ag, from people who work in a variety of roles from offices in America's largest cities and small towns to farms across the country. At CHS, we're hiring for hundreds of roles all across our trade territory. We need people, from all industries and career backgrounds, to be a part of the role agriculture plays in America. Over the last month, CHS employees spent time recognizing and celebrating Black History Month through multiple events sponsored by Mozaiko, one of our employee resource groups (ERG), which focuses on ethnic diversity and inclusion. Jaha Juma, a business systems analyst, IT, serves on the leadership team for Mozaiko and has been with CHS nearly 10 years. She has seen a lot of changes at CHS over that time, and continues to see more diversity within the company. Mozaiko is working to create an inclusive environment for all employees. Speaking to her work and well-being, Juma says, "Mozaiko has allowed for me to have an open and honest dialogue about our cultural differences. It also created an environment that I can have fun, show up and be my best self at work."
