Our Women’s Professional Network recently explored popular advice directed at women to omit undermining words (i.e. “sorry,”“I am not an expert…,” “just,” “maybe”) from our communication, and compared the perspective that “softened” language and qualifiers, in some contexts, can be a sign of emotional intelligence and thus, a professional strength. Participants were encouraged to trust their instincts to choose the right words for the situation, while acknowledging that women and men can benefit from attending to the power of their speech.
We were humbled and honored to donate the automobile provided in the Benevolence program at Mike's Auto Body. Community Affairs Coordinator Victor Cordon was on hand to present the car to Veteran TeJae Dunnivant and her son. No one could have foreseen the lifeline this one car became for their family.
