Cloudera’s Inside Sales Director, Elaine Battersby, discusses how she helps create a culture of inclusion through harnessing differences.
"Commitment, openness, collaboration, empathy, all of these are what make Cloudera what it is today. But there’s so much more to why I love being a Solutions Architect in the Professional Services team at Cloudera." ~Richa Ranjan, Solutions Architect, ML Solutions Architecture at Cloudera
Cloudera, the enterprise data cloud company, today, Oct. 8, announced the successful completion of its previously announced agreement to be acquired by affiliates of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (“CD&R”) and KKR in an all cash transaction valued at approximately $5.3 billion. Cloudera common stock has ceased trading and is no longer listed on the New York Stock Exchange. “Today marks an exciting new chapter in our company’s future,” said CEO, Rob Bearden. “As a private company, we will have the agility and resources to meet the needs of businesses today in a hybrid world. With the capital support and expertise of CD&R and KKR, we will be focusing on accelerating our product innovation, cloud transformation and customer growth.” Cloudera delivers a hybrid cloud platform that enables enterprises to access and analyze data across public and private clouds as well as on premises to deliver flexibility, performance, speed and control.
Our latest Influential UK Women in Data session featured Brenda Le Sueur from Cambridge Assessments. Brenda has worked across many organisations and continents, but what has always been crucial to her is relationships – how we cultivate them, how we nurture them and how they, in turn, define us. Cloudera's Ana Gillan sat down with Brenda to ask her about her journey as a woman in tech and understand more about the impact of relationships on our career.
In June, we announced the beginning of a new chapter for Cloudera, with a mission to make data and analytics easy and accessible, for everyone. With transformation comes change, and we're thrilled to announce the promotion of Sudhir “Suds” Menon, Ram Venkatesh and Paul Codding, three leaders driving our mission forward.
Having started his journey at Cloudera as an intern and then making his way to the Data In Motion team, Barnabas feels his first experience in the real world of work has allowed him to grow, not only professionally but on a personal level as well. Barnabas enjoys living by our core values and is pleased that they are so deeply ingrained in our culture. “One of our core values is, ‘We believe in open’. Of course, it means that almost all of our software is open-source, but it’s much more than that. Everyone is open to new ideas and open-minded as a person. Even as an intern, I felt like my ideas mattered. Senior developers listen to you and don’t dismiss you based on less experience.” “Be the Change” is another core value that Barnabas is deeply aligned with. “At Cloudera, you have to be proactive to get the best out of yourself. Many times, you’re not told what to do. You can come up with your own ideas to improve the product.”
As we look at the importance of data, and data for good, we wanted to take an opportunity to do something different this year. We have written our first book for children, 8-10 years old — “A Fresh Squeeze on Data”. This book shows simple ways for problem solving with data in a way that kids can understand. We have a small ‘working group’ of parents and kids at Cloudera who have been reading this book at home and so far, the reviews have been good!

Last week we held our third Women In Data Webinar in EMEA, and what a session it was! We were honored to welcome Justyna Lebedyk, Senior Product Owner Big Data, Commerzbank AG, who posed the question “Does diversity win?” This blog highlights key themes from her talk and what advice she would give to others looking to pursue a career in data.
It’s been a year of awakening and change across the U.S. and around the world. One year ago our CEO Rob Bearden vowed to take decisive action to make Cloudera a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive place to work and have Cloudera take an active role in promoting those attributes in the tech industry and our communities. There is no one size fits all solution to creating an intentional and strategic plan for a diverse workforce. What we have created over the past year, and will continue to create, is a plan unique to Cloudera that is based on data. Really digging into the data and understanding the unique fingerprint that Cloudera has, has led us to adapt and grow the commitments made last year.
