In partnership with Michigan-based businesses across the state, DTE invested $2.5 billion to create and sustain more than 11,000 jobs. For over a decade, DTE has steadily invested nearly $18 billion with diverse suppliers across Michigan, bringing about 65,000 in state jobs.
DTE Energy ended 2022 delivering cleaner energy, increasing customers' energy reliability and creating a rewarding employee workplace. CEO Jerry Norcia announced annual earnings for the year and summarized the company's achievements, "This year we accelerated our clean energy journey, improved our infrastructure and continued to provide a diverse, engaging workplace."
DTE reduced customer winter heating bills by almost $5 million beginning in February. Based on our company's natural gas purchasing strategy, customers will enjoy further savings as DTE continues to reduce its' Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) rate. What is the Gas Cost Recovery rate? DTE customers only pay what our company pays for natural gas. “Keeping energy costs affordable for our customers, especially during the winter when customers really need to keep the heat and lights on, is one of our top priorities,” said Joi Harris, president and chief operating officer, DTE Gas. “This bill reduction, which comes at the time of year when customer use of natural gas is at its highest, proves that our buying strategy works.”
DTE Energy's retirement of our Trenton Channel and St. Clair coal plants is another step in our company's plan to deliver affordable, reliable and clean energy through a modern grid that meets the needs of our customers' changing lifestyles and our state's new economy.
DTE's state-of-the-art Blue Water Energy Center launched in early June and is our company's single largest step in reducing emissions to date. “The combination of investments in power generation assets like the Blue Water Energy Center that can run 24/7, plus the expansion of renewables, has helped us achieve a 30 percent reduction in carbon emissions, and puts us well on our way to meet our goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said CEO Jerry Norcia.
Customer demand for DTE Energy’s MIGreenPower voluntary renewable program surpasses 50 thousand enrollees, which is driving more solar energy projects in Michigan.

Thanks, General Motors, for your commitment to Michigan. At DTE we’re proud of the way our government leaders and business community came together to attract and keep new business and jobs in the state. We also appreciate the support of the Michigan’s Public Service Commission and its approval of our new high load electric rate. This allows DTE to offer highly competitive rates to large projects, such as this, without affecting the other competitive rates we offer. As a long time supporter of investing in Michigan businesses, DTE energy will continue to bring new business to our home state.
