Today, we announced the reopening of our Dollar General store in Porter, Oklahoma after having to close it down last year due to a fire. This store was an important part of the community and over the past few months, we worked with United States Senator Jim Inhofe and town leaders to rebuild it and bring back an expanded Dollar General to the city. As we open the doors to this store once more, we are also presenting $10,000 in local donations, comprised of a $5,000 donation to the Porter Fire Department and a $5,000 donation to Porter Consolidated Schools. We’re committed to continue #ServingOthers and being a good corporate neighbor to our local communities.

This week’s featured act of DG Kindness is Denise! District Manager Denise was inspired after reading a Facebook post from Shepherd’s House, a non-profit organization serving the Knox County, Ohio area. Shepherd’s House serves individuals experiencing homelessness by providing food, clothing and hygiene items. Their program was running low on supplies and Denise immediately reached out to the DG Stores in her district and began collecting hats, gloves, warm socks, blankets, and bars of soap. In the true spirit of Serving Others, the team collected three large boxes of donations within one week.
After persistently trying to steal a purple unicorn from our Mt. Olive, NC Dollar General, we’re happy to share that Sisu has found his fur-ever home! And he didn’t leave town empty handed – our DG family is ensuring that Sisu’s adopted home has plenty of stuffed unicorns and a year’s supply of dog food! Plus, to show our appreciation to animal control Officer Samantha Lane, we provided her with a thank you gift card to treat future pups in need, and a supply of pet food for the local shelter, Duplin County Animal Services! #inspiration #storytelling #community #ServingOthers
