In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we invited our employees to join our members and patients in a special digital journey called “31 Days of Mental Fitness.” Each day, participants receive exclusive content with mental health tips, information, and resources — like EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care Meditation and Yoga instructor, Jen, demonstrating a calming breathing technique.
Jody Servo, EmblemHealth and AdvantageCare Physicians Marketing Business Partner, talks about her rewarding career as part the EmblemHealth family of companies. “In my role, I develop strategic space programs, master design guidelines, and clinical space standards for our medical office real estate portfolio. I’ve been fortunate to work for EmblemHealth for over 30 years and feel proud to be part of a company that is invested in the health and wellbeing of its employees, members and the community it serves. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities and to be part of a company that continually steps up, moves forward and innovates change is a rewarding experience.” – Jody Servo, Marketing Business Partner
During Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month we recognize and celebrate the contributions and influence of these communities to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. The EmblemHealth family of companies stands against discrimination in all its forms and condemns the recent acts of violence and prejudice against Asian American communities. This month – and every month – we take time to listen, ask questions, and learn how we can support our AAPI colleagues and neighbors.
As part of our continued commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment, we recently hosted an internal event where we invited employees to share their perspectives on how we can advance our work and values. It was also an opportunity to share updates and progress made so far this year regarding inclusion and belonging. We will continue to be intentional about hearing from our employees and leveraging their perspectives. Thank you to all who participated and tuned in.
Larisa Layug, Director Business, Technology and Transformation team talks about enjoying her career and team work at our enterprise: “I work with a high performing team of talented and caring individuals who have different backgrounds and expertise in technology, business operations, systems testing and program delivery. What we have in common is that we are problem solvers, outcomes oriented, and dedicated to our mission and to each other. We encourage our employees to bring their full, authentic selves to work each day. Our employee resource groups (ERGs) – created and run by employees – empower members and help foster connections and conversations across our enterprise. In a recent virtual event, representatives from each ERG discussed health care solutions that foster health equity and the unique challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Keynote speaker, WellSpark Chief Medical Officer Dr. Wayne Rawlins, addressed vaccine hesitancy and health equity among underserved communities. Thanks to all our ERG representatives and everyone who participated.
This International Women's Day, we #ChooseToChallenge our employees to bring their full, authentic, vulnerable, human selves to work – which can feel scary for many of us. Our employee resource group The Bold Collective, which is dedicated to cultivating authentic conversations and meaningful connections among women and their allies, recently hosted a virtual event with guest speaker Roxane Gay (The TUESDAY Agency). Roxane talked about how women (and all humans) can be strong but vulnerable at the same time, and challenges us to give ourselves and each other space to feel.
At our virtual Black History Month celebration, enterprise employees shared stories of Black icons — like W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, George Shirley, Jane Cook-Wright, and many more — who inspired them personally and had a profound impact on history. Then, we heard from guest speaker Randi B. Nelson, MD, MBA, who spoke about the link between health and financial well-being. Thank you to our employee resource group Rise for hosting this event and for your continued work to fostering engagement and inclusion for people of color.
Although we can’t celebrate Black History Month together in-person this year, our employee resource group RISE — which is committed to fostering engagement and inclusion for people of color — has planned an internal event next week to honor the resilience of Black communities. The event will feature instrumental contributions from Black figures in history, as well as a conversation with guest speaker Dr. Randi Nelson, whose works focus on the intersection between financial security and physical health and wellbeing. How are you recognizing and celebrating Black History Month?
