"I was in the back half of my career and realized—if I was ever going to do something I actually enjoyed, now was the time,” says Mike Witt, a 60-year-old recent graduate of Ford’s dealer technician training program. Mike’s significant career change was the result of finding the Ford training program at a local community college. "It was affordable, hands-on, and led to real credentials." Software engineering manager, recent MBA grad, Ford Leadership Development Program participant and parent of a three-year-old: Sharmishta Roy is not afraid of a challenge. She can now add Automotive Rising Star to her list of achievements after being honored recently at the 2025 AutoTech Awards. The Automotive Rising Star Award goes to one individual worldwide who has pushed the boundaries in their chosen field, made a sustained and significant contribution and driven positive change in the automotive tech industry. Sharmishta has led several transformative initiatives in her seven years at Ford, but two projects stood out for the judges. “I designed and built a data pipeline that delivers factory-floor data to the cloud with sub-second latency,” says Sharmishta. “I also spearheaded the creation of Ford’s Global Command Center, which assembled a team of over 100 professionals across the globe to build the framework to handle IT incidents. It significantly cut costs, increased operational efficiency and set a new standard for enterprise-wide incident management.” Better data means better ways to build great vehicles. Happily, she’s taking time to celebrate her win and recent graduation by traveling to Switzerland and Italy this fall with her parents. Congratulations, Sharmishta!
“What drew me to Ford was the exceptional team culture and the caliber of the people,” says senior data scientist Mohamed Nafees A. “Knowing that I would be working in such a supportive and dynamic environment made the decision to join Ford an easy one.” The recent hire to Ford’s Marketing Analytics Innovation Lab is using his expertise in AI to explore and understand the heart of the business: the customer. “I play a part in helping Ford make smart decisions that really connect with the customer and keep Ford competitive. It’s exciting to use groundbreaking technology and apply it to real-world use cases.” Technology has also helped him give back to the world outside of work, and it’s helped his family stay close, despite being spread across different continents. “We stay connected to our roots and to each other by working together on community upliftment initiatives back home in southern India,” Mohamed Nafees says. “Over the past five years, we’ve organized free medical camps, supported education for school-aged children, and facilitated skill-building workshops for teenagers in collaboration with local organizations.” Like Ford, Mohamed Nafees and his family are committed to building a better world — together. Welcome to Ford, Mohamed Nafees!
How do the father and son engineers at Ford work so well together? It takes a lot of engine-uity! (Okay, we’ll let ourselves out). And at our Sunrise Engineering Center, we have not one, not two, but three pairs of father/son duos to offer up maximum dad joke potential. Fathers Roberto Gautier, Kevin Freisen, and Bert Garcia have the unique opportunity to work at the same facility with their sons, Giancarlo, Patrick and Nick. For Robert, "working in a place where generations of engineers can collaborate together, share experiences and resolve problems in a new way" is what moves the company forward. He and son Giancarlo have worked on different aspects of the same project and have shared work insights that help them both learn and grow professionally. For son Patrick, working with others who have had the opportunity to work with his own father fills him with pride. "I've always admired your guidance - it has helped to make me who I am today. Thanks for everything!" Wishing all of our Ford employees who are dads, stepdads, grandfathers and father-figures a happy and relaxing Father’s Day!
