Karen Baker – a military spouse and Director of HR at Hilton Worldwide – knows the many challenges military spouses face, including having to continuously move around the country. That’s why she believes military spouses need to find an understanding employer who supports their role. “Work on your resume to highlight volunteer and stay at home mom experiences, and don’t be afraid to put on your resume that you moved due to a military relocation.”
When Super Typhoon Rammasun hit Haikou City on Hainan Island in China with strong winds, the Hilton Hotel Haikou was not yet open for business. But the Team Members were already in place and jumped in to help the city with their recovery efforts, despite the heat, flooded roadways and other obstacles. The Team Members were seen all around the city offering assistance and were recognized by the local radio station who interviewed and thanked the Hilton team. They demonstrated their dedication to the City of Haikou and showed that they live by Hilton's core values.
Team Members from Hilton Waikoloa Village made a trip to the town of Hilo to speak with more than 60 culinary arts students at Hawaii Community College. They spoke to students about the hotel, the hospitality business, and the ins and outs of working in a kitchen. Thanks for reaching out to the local community and our future culinary Team Members!
Hilton has the largest number of hotels from a single hospitality company participating in the upcoming 2015 Sustainable Seafood Festival in China. The festival, organized by the World Wildlife Fund-China (WWF-China) and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), brings together hotels, restaurants, retailers and suppliers to raise awareness and promote sustainable seafood options. Three Team Members were heading home when the ground started shaking. Acting with a sense of Now, they abandoned their cars and returned to the hotel, where two more Team Members were evacuating Guests. A few days later, more earthquakes struck the area. These heroes took Ownership of the hotel’s safety. After the government declared that no one could sleep indoors, this Team of Heroes moved all beds to the hotel’s safety zone in the parking lot and provided water and other needs.
