We’re celebrating all fathers across the Universe! Meet Kalind, a Robotics Engineer who designs mobility systems, or as he describes it to his children, River and Cyra: robot footwear. “At JPL we ask the big questions about life and the Universe. I get to work with the scientists to help design robotic solutions that are tailored to local physics. I can imagine myself as an interplanetary astronaut traveling to those places.” He has inspired River, who wants to be a genetic scientist when he grows up. And Cyra? “I want to be an astronaut artist on the moon.” Explore open opportunities → http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMBJo
“The JPL community is very intellectual and curious—they are explorers. They’re open to learning things, and that gives JPL an advantage to make leaps in technology and science, but also in society.” Meet Vlada, a research scientist in the Astrobiology Group of the Planetary Science Section. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, he grew up in Switzerland and studied physics at the ETH Zurich before getting his PhD with the European Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center in Berlin. After a few years at MIT and Caltech, Vlada joined JPL a year and half ago. He is currently working with the Mars Exploration Directorate, developing the technology and the science to search for life and resources in the Martian subsurface. “We’re all in the same game, we’re all humans. When you have dialogue and you care for each other, that’s when real change happens. JPL has been enormously good—I’m very proud of this community here.” Explore open opportunities → http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMBkl
“Extraordinary things are being built and conceived at JPL every day, but they cannot be done without its people.” Meet Alex, an Administrator for the Astrophysics and Space Sciences Section who joined @NASAJPL almost 20 years ago. “I started off as an APX, programming boards and placing them on chassis, but moved over to the business side quickly after realizing I love helping people.” Alex has been a member of SPECTRUM (the lab’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group) since 1999. “Over many years, SPECTRUM’s members have paved the way to gain more equality on lab. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to join and participate, especially the non-LGBTQ+ community. I can honestly say that I feel very safe and welcomed here. I have Trans friends on lab, and even through their transition, have told me that they have full support from their teams and the organization. It truly is a great place to work for.” Explore open opportunities → http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMB2N

"I still get amazed by the unique work we do here, and I feel very privileged to be able to work with some of the nicest, smartest, and most innovative people." Meet Jamilla, a Subcontracts Manager who started at JPL as an intern 3 years ago in the Acquisition division. Born and raised in the Philippines, she graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing her MBA at UC Irvine. At JPL, she serves as the primary interface with suppliers in support of project procurement requirements in the Fabrication and Parts group. Her group purchases electronic parts, fabrication services, and more in support of all missions across the Lab. "My favorite thing about what I do is being able to help and support my end-users and projects in my own little way. But above all, I get to do something for a bigger purpose." "JPLers are passionate about what we do, and our accomplishments help the next generation continue to imagine and dare mighty things." Meet Nelson, an Electromagnetic Engineer who joined over 14 years ago shortly after completing his Electrical Engineering degree at UCLA. In his role, he supports multiple flight projects across the Lab in the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) discipline, which ensures that the spacecraft operates as intended with no electrical and magnetic interference from the space environment. The EMC mission for all programs is to catch potentially detrimental problems to mission success early on and provide solutions! Born and raised to immigrant parents from Taiwan, Nelson is also a leader in the Asian American Council (AAC), a JPL employee resource group, where he's been actively involved for over 10 years. "AAC provides the Lab with an avenue to further explore and learn about Asian-American culture.” Explore open opportunities → http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMdKi
"Always be passionate about what you do." Meet Liz, the Division Manager for Mission Systems and Operations, whose JPL journey began almost 30 years ago as a student intern after immigrating from Taiwan! In her current role managing the Lab's largest technical division, she focuses on developing a new generation of Science Data Systems that are scalable and reusable across earth, planetary, and astrophysics missions. Liz is also involved with the Asian American Council, a JPL employee resource group, that proactively fosters the full utilization of the multicultural workforce and advocates positive systemic changes.
