On June 19, 1865, about two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, the Union soldiers traveled to Galveston Bay, Texas, to share the news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans were able to embrace freedom and have been celebrating Juneteenth ever since. This holiday has been officially federally recognized since 2021 and is the oldest holiday to commemorate the end of slavery. #WeArePeabody #Juneteenth ✊🏾

Peabody Properties and Common Ground Development Corp. (CGDC) hosted a special ribbon-cutting event for Tavernier Place, featuring 31 one-bedroom affordable rentals for seniors aged 62+ and individuals with disabilities. Tavernier Place offers 31 one-bedroom, one-bath apartments for individuals aged 62+ and non-elderly disabled residents. Eight units are for households earning 30% or less of the area median income (AMI), while 23 units are for households earning 60% or less of the AMI. Amenities include an exercise room, community room, outdoor bicycle racks, on-site management, extra storage space, a lobby area with a screened-in porch, and two elevators. Peabody Properties provides comprehensive services for our elderly population. Grateful to the development team: Common Ground Development Corp. (developer), Maugel DeStefano Architects Inc. (architect), Dellbrook JKS(construction), and Peabody Properties, Inc. (property management). Tavernier Place pays tribute to Acton resident Nancy Tavernier, a champion for affordable housing. Funding support from Massachusetts Housing Partnership, DHCD, CEDAC, Eastern Bank, MassHousing, RBC Capital Markets, and Acton Community Housing Corporation.
