During a recent seagrass survey, our Florida team had an exciting critter encounter. A curious manatee joined in on the adventure throughout the rest of the survey on the Indian River Lagoon in Vero Beach! Our teams have training for wildlife encounters and always prioritize respecting wildlife – no touching allowed. For our coastal work, we monitor several bridge construction projects to ensure that for any in-water work, such as bridge support replacements, the construction won’t impact seagrass close to the bridge. We place buoys to indicate the extent of the seagrass beds for the contractors to avoid, ensuring that the manatee’s vital food source is protected. The more seagrass that stays protected, the more likely for manatee encounters like our team experienced!
n partnership with Swiftwater Films, RES has produced Restoring Balance, a short film charting restoration plans integral to the largest dam removal and river restoration project in U.S. history. The film conveys the story of a partnership between RES and tribal communities who are working together to heal the severely degraded Klamath River.
