SSOE was recently named one of the Largest Architectural Firms by Crain's Detroit Business. Across the U.S. and around the world, we’re driven by a mission to deliver unparalleled client value that advances the AEC industry. It’s an honor to be recognized as a leader in Michigan where we have offices in Troy, Kalamazoo, and Midland.
On a recent episode of A Blueprint for Equity, a podcast powered by SSOE and hosted by Candice Harrison, guest Shaz Vijlee describes a program he helped launch that involved two high schools close to the University of Portland’s campus with very diverse populations. The program allowed for 12 to 15 students from those high schools to take Intro to Engineering—which ultimately resulted in those high schools getting funding for their own STEM classes because of the program’s success. Shaz is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Portland’s Shiley School of Engineering, which is where he’s called home since 2014. He’s one of three guests who joined us on our inaugural episode that focused on diversity in higher education. SSOE recently featured in South Carolina newspaper Times and Democrat for being selected by Orangeburg County as the architect for its new county courthouse. The county’s current Amelia Street courthouse (pictured) is decidedly too small for the county’s needs and past its useful life. When it comes to designing centers for justice, SSOE holds court. We’ve completed over 2 million SF of new, renovation, and restoration design in more than 15 courthouses. We also have over 30 years of experience designing government facilities at the federal, state, and local levels. #SSOEsoutheast

Food for thought: In this Food Engineering Magazine article, a few of SSOE’s subject matter experts weighed in on this year’s top trends in food and beverage manufacturing. Based on the publication’s annual survey, the article covers how the longer lasting effects of the pandemic have impacted the food and beverage supply chain—with good labor still hard to find and consumer behaviors keeping everyone on their toes.
On a recent episode of A Blueprint for Equity, a podcast powered by SSOE, guest Ece Erdogmus discussed the importance of representation in the AEC industry. She also reminded women listeners that they don’t have to give up their high heels and big earrings for hard hats and work boots—you can be both. A highly respected architectural engineering scholar, Ece serves as Professor and Chair at the School of Building Construction at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. She’s one of three guests who joined us on our inaugural episode that focused on diversity in higher education. As part of our continued 75th anniversary celebrations, SSOE awarded Mom's House of Toledo—winner of our "Building the Future" Contest— a 105-piece set of Imagination Playground equipment for the nonprofit's 5-star-rated childcare facility. The new playscape was unveiled at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this week. SSOE's Vince DiPofi, CEO, and Candice Harrison, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, both quoted within. #SSOEcelebrates75
75th anniversary celebration photos continue to pour in! Employees from our Alabama offices joined forces for a minor league baseball game—the Birmingham Barons vs. the Huntsville Trash Pandas. Employees watched the game at Regions Field, just 15 minutes from our Birmingham office. With home field advantage, the Barons got the win (much to the dismay of our Huntsville crew). #SSOEcelebrates75 #SSOEsoutheast
