At Solvay, we're making efforts to look after the nature around our sites. We're trying to do our part in protecting local wildlife and their habitats, contributing to biodiversity, in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework 🌿We're working to improve biodiversity at sites like Rosignano in Italy and Torrelavega in Spain. 🌺We're studying the local plants and animals and implementing nature-based solutions to protect local ecosystems. 🐈⬛Our Paulinia site in Brazil, where animals like capybaras, pumas and jaguars live, has been recognized for its conservation work. For this World Wildlife Day, we wanted to share some of these initiatives. We believe every little bit helps when it comes to preserving nature.💚
As we wrap up Engineering Week, we're thrilled to highlight Luisa Helena Nascimento, a dedicated Production Engineer with a passion for technical ingenuity and collaboration. Luisa's journey with us began in 2015 as a process engineering intern. Over the past decade, she has made significant contributions in both process and production engineering. Her proudest moment was when she worked on a project which automated the Nitric Acid Unit and centralized operations, enhancing safety and efficiency. If Luisa were a chemical element, she would be carbon, symbolizing her belief in the importance of forming strong, meaningful connections in both her professional and personal life.
We're excited to share that Solvay is partnering with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to further our biodiversity commitments. We are looking forward to working alongside IUCN and leverage their expertise to achieve tangible, positive impacts for nature. This three-year collaboration will focus on implementing best practices at our sites near biodiversity-sensitive areas, supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework, and accelerating nature conservation across the chemical industry. Education is the cornerstone of progress, and we’re proud to make a difference through initiatives like our Adopt A Class partnership in Cincinnati and our collaborations in Bad Wimpfen, Germany. Across our global sites, we are working to inspire young minds and foster their passion for science and innovation. In Cincinnati, we connect with students through monthly hands-on lessons and site tours, showing them how STEM careers can shape their futures. At Bad Wimpfen, programs such as "Kreative Köpfe" encourage students to tackle real-world challenges with creativity and ingenuity. Recent projects included designing a water-quality monitoring tap and a bicycle turn signal, supported by our experts and resources. Additionally, our team at Bad Wimpfen participates in education fairs like "Berufswelt Heilbronn" and "Vocatium in Sinsheim," showcasing STEM career paths and connecting with young talent. These events strengthen our ties with local schools and highlight exciting opportunities for the next generation. This Education Day, we honor the educators, students, and teams who make these initiatives possible, expanding horizons and nurturing growth. Together, we’re paving the way for a brighter future making it essential for generations.

Did you know that electric cars, wind turbines, medical applications, and digital technologies all count on Rare Earth elements? These critical materials are at the heart of the energy transition and e-mobility revolution. Our La Rochelle site in France will become a major European Rare Earths hub, building on 70+ years of expertise in rare earth separation. The hub will focus on high-performance permanent magnets, essential for technologies driving a sustainable future. Sourcing Rare Earths responsibly is key to this effort, with materials coming from: ♻️ Recycling end-of-life magnets 🌍 Mining outside China 🏭 Industrial tailings At full capacity, additional tons of Rare Earths will be produced annually at La Rochelle, covering a significant portion of Europe’s future needs for clean mobility and renewable energy. With this initiative, we’re not only supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy but also creating a circular and sustainable Rare Earths value chain.
Following up on the successful launch of our biodigester at the Ciudad Juarez production site in Mexico, developed in partnership with Franco y Asociados. The innovative project transforms organic waste from local municipal services into biomethane, providing up to 80% of the site’s energy needs for boiler and kiln operations. By reducing reliance on natural gas, it highlights how circular economy solutions can make a meaningful impact on both energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The inauguration event brought together representatives from government, academia, and environmental institutions, including Johan Verkammen, Ambassador of Belgium in Mexico, alongside local and regional leaders. Their participation reinforces the importance of collaboration in building a more sustainable future. This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams, partners, and everyone involved. Together, we continue to show that progress is made through impactful steps.
We at Solvay are proud to partner with Pantys to support Projeto Arrastao, a remarkable non-profit organization in São Paulo dedicated to empowering communities and fostering education. With Pantys’ high-tech, clinically approved absorbent underwear – featuring our Amni Soul Eco® technology – we’re providing an innovative solution that’s biodegradable and promotes skin comfort. Through this collaboration, over 200 Pantys were donated, ensuring at least four years of comfort and security for the girls during their menstrual cycles. At Solvay, we believe that addressing intimate health goes beyond providing access to quality products—it’s also about sharing knowledge and increasing self-awareness. At the event an engaging and insightful menstrual cycle discussion circle was held, promoting dialogue and connection.
