This Hispanic Heritage Month we are honoring the individuality among the Hispanic Americans here at Suffolk and highlighting their cultural traditions. Next up is Suffolk West Region Senior Safety Manager Michele Salas, who was born to a long line of hard-working Mexican change-makers in San Diego County, California. Her mother is actually the current Mayor of Chula Vista and works to leave a legacy where all families, native or immigrant, will have a bright and prosperous future for their families. Michele’s favorite thing about her culture is its influence in local art, architecture, and gardens, including Spanish Village in Balboa Park and Chicano Park, which remind her of her family’s history and perseverance. She typically celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month on “Dia de la Independencia” or Mexico’s independence from Spain, by visiting arts and cultural events that celebrate the contributions artists, musicians, film producers and historians have made to bring awareness to the vibrant Latino culture. Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth to Michele and all the Hispanic American employees a

This Hispanic Heritage Month we honored the individuality among the Hispanic Americans here at Suffolk and highlighted their cultural traditions. Our final highlight on this last day of Hispanic Heritage Month is Suffolk Northeast Assistant Project Manager Lara Rodriguez-Salvador, who was born and raised in California to a mother from Northern Spain and a father from Nicaragua. She grew up in a part of San Francisco called The Mission that had a strong Latino influence, which allowed her to experience many different Hispanic cultures and gave her a natural feeling of community. There were many other immigrants there trying to navigate American ways while still holding on to their own traditions, so street festivals and celebrations were prolific. One of her favorite family traditions is the New Year’s Eve Grapes tradition, where each person eats one grape for each of the 12 bells counting down to the new year for good luck. Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth to Lara and all the Hispanic American employees at Suffolk and beyond! #wearesuffolk
This Hispanic Heritage Month we are honoring the individuality among the Hispanic Americans here at Suffolk and highlighting their cultural traditions. Next up is Suffolk South Region Senior Estimator Guillermo Navarro, who was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia and came to the U.S. almost 20 years ago. His favorite thing about his culture are the amicable, passionate, and charming people. He loves celebrating with his family, whether that’s volunteering at Hispanic Heritage festivals at his daughters’ schools or hosting big, seven-course dinners for Holy Thursday (that hopefully include Ajiaco con Pollo). His family is musically gifted, so he grew up surrounded by instruments and musicians playing Cumbia, Boleros, and Vallenatos and now enjoys everything from Salsa to Rock to Country. Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth to Guillermo and all the Hispanic American employees at Suffolk and beyond! #wearesuffolk

This Hispanic Heritage Month we are honoring the individuality among the Hispanic Americans here at Suffolk and highlighting their cultural traditions. Next up is Suffolk South Region Project Manager Jackeline Rivera, who was born in Lima, Peru, raised in California and now lives in Miami, Florida. Her favorite things about her culture are the closeness and importance of family, the incredible geography of Peru, and of course…the Peruvian food! Some of her favorite family memories are centered around making Peruvian dishes for holidays and now sharing those same recipes with her own children. She loves being in Miami because there is a large Peruvian community and a bunch of Peruvian restaurants, which makes her very proud of her heritage. Happy #HispanicHeritageMonth to Jackie and all the Hispanic American employees at Suffolk and beyond! #wearesuffolk
