In post-acute care, clinicians provide support for the sickest of the sick and the frailest of the frail. Today we recognize the vital role locum tenens physicians have in the fight against COVID-19. In the midst of the relentless pandemic surge, a New York City-based health system was forced to create an emergency field hospital to meet the patient care needs of a population decimated by COVID-19. TeamHealth’s locum tenens company, D&Y, was ready to assist in the critical task of quickly mobilizing a qualified medical staff to serve on the pandemic’s front line. D&Y has been able to rapidly recruit, credential and relocate a response team of over 100 providers who have delivered over 41,000 hours of clinical patient care since the beginning of the pandemic. D&Y has been able to effectively flex coverage based on patient demand, ensuring responsible and appropriate coverage with both patient safety and fiscal responsibility in mind. Based on our response to this crisis, D&Y has continued to support this health system throughout the unceasing waves of the virus in the city.

In 48 hours, we mobilized and sent more than two dozen clinicians to El Paso from neighboring communities and states. See the details of the full response here.
As the COVID-19 crisis unfolded in cities nationwide, it impacted nearly all of our clinical teams in approximately 700 partner facilities. TeamHealth clinicians fought for patients to ensure they received life-saving care while we stood behind them to guarantee they had the resources needed to wage an unprecedented battle against an unknown adversary. As they continue their life-saving work, we continue to support them by all means necessary. We stand firmly behind them to provide the resources and tools they need to ultimately be the healthcare heroes who defeat one of the deadliest viruses in modern history. Read more.
“There were a lot of unknowns and a lot of fear… one of the things we have to do is suppress that fear and build a system and figure out how to get the job done safely. Which is what we did.” Randy S. Katz, DO, Facility Medical Director, and his team in South Florida worked with hospital leadership to face the challenge of creating a plan to address an unrelenting surge of COVID-19 patients.
