As we wrap up a fun-filled and fabulous Pride Month, we'd like to shout out our Pride Employee Resource Group and teams across the organization for celebrating with in-store displays, drag queen bingo, rainbow breakroom takeovers, and a Pride spirit week. As proud allies, we partnered with the Hetrick-Martin Institute — the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to providing community, basic needs, health, education, and career services to thousands of LGBTQ+ youth every year. A portion of proceeds from our collaboration with LA-based queer art and clothing boutique, Cultureedit, has gone to the Hetrick-Martin Institute to support their worthy efforts.

Did you know that the global fashion industry accounts for at least four percent of greenhouse gas emissions? Our founder and CEO Julie Wainwright traveled to Washington last week to encourage Congress to incentivize consumers and businesses to embrace circularity by proposing tax credits for consumers who buy secondhand, and put tariffs on fast fashion imports. As we wrap up Earth Month, we are pleased to announce that our Sustainability Calculator has expanded to include our Handbags, Watches, Fine Jewelry, and Kids categories. TRR's Sustainability Calculator was launched in 2018 as the first-of-its-kind tool to measure the estimated greenhouse gas and water saved by the resale of men’s and women’s apparel. This expansion will enable us to publish savings data for approximately double the number of products and educate our community about the positive impact resale has on our planet. Thinking and acting sustainably is a core value at TRR, and we know that reducing fashion waste motivates 40% of our customers and consignors to sell and buy with us too! From inception through March 31, 2022, The RealReal has saved 2.8+ billion liters of water (the equivalent of 12 billion 8oz glasses of water) and 52,767 metric tons of carbon (the amount absorbed by 8.8 million trees in one year) across all measured categories.
