“It’s literally my dream job,” says travel writer Natalie. She joined The Washington Post a year ago to help launch The Post’s new travel destination, By The Way. Now she finds herself writing about travel from her home in Washington, D.C. during the pandemic. The day to day of her job hasn’t changed much, but her wardrobe has. She says, “No more work uniform. Instead I’m writing in robes, workout clothes or bizarre combinations of clothing I’d never wear in public.” Her work station is different too. She’s finding that more than one cup of coffee is a bit much so it’s a glass of iced tea in the afternoon to give her some caffeine without overdoing it. With gyms closed, she took up long-distance running until a knee injury cancelled that, too. Hence the ibuprofen. She works near the window to soak in the natural light and nice street view. She brightens the space with fresh flowers and a photo of her favorite meal in Bangkok, inspiration that she will travel again.
