“LatinX heritage month is an opportunity to acknowledge and cherish my Dominican-Puerto Rican roots whilst living far away from fellow LatinX community. LatinX heritage has a wide range of magnificent traditions shared by a common language Spanish and Portuguese. There is so much to learn and enjoy! Listen and dance to Merengue, Salsa, or Samba, and of course experience all the delicious food!” Farah Royer, Carrier Relations Manager-SMS, based in Munich, Germany
“The WFH world is especially trying on corporate Physical Security and Safety professionals as our entire being is our support of people being in offices. When your life is a bit sideways and everyday is basically the same as the day before, its time to change it up in a big way! The Twilio Physical Security, Health & Safety Team held a "formal" day from head to toe, which we do not even do when we are in offices!! Great to change up the morning routine, care about the smallest of details about oneself and looking forward to "loosening up" at the end of the day. It was hard for everyone to temper their smiles to take a "formal" photo! I love this team!” Todd Pulver, Director, Physical Security, Health & Safety
It's been a busy year at Twilio and employees are navigating a lot both personally and professionally. Twilio took the time to pause and appreciate all of the incredible things Twillions continue to build each day! To celebrate, our People team organized appreciation swag boxes to be sent to each employee across the globe. To all Twillions, thank you for all that you do!
In the United Kingdom, Black History Month has been celebrated every October since 1987. Black History Month is a nationwide celebration of African and Caribbean culture, arts and history, which recognizes the achievements and contributions of Black people to British society. Throughout the month of October, Twilio UK will remotely host an array of activities in support of Black History Month UK, brought to you by the Black Twilions ERG, and the London and Cambridge site council.
We are so proud of the Twilio.org team and the work they do to ignite positive change across the globe. Repost from Natasha Whitledge, Employee Impact Manager at Twilio. "A year ago, we launched a program called WePledge, which is all about encouraging Twilions to commit to giving 1% of their time and/or financial resources to social good. Since then, Twilions have given over $1 million and 7,000 hours to charities around the world! Last week we open-sourced WePledge, providing a guidebook for other companies who want to adopt the program and encouraging individuals like you reading this right now, yes you, to personally take the 1% Pledge. And when that happens, you get to choose a charitable organization to receive a $100 donation (on Twilio's dime). So go for it! Text PLEDGE to 44663."
“People often forget that we are all human beings despite our differences, background and stories. Just as for any other culture, having a LatinX heritage comes with a big responsibility. Truly understanding where you come from prepares you to make a significant impact in society. We are seen as joyful and kind people and those are our most powerful tools to make that impact and build a better world. All of us should always remember that.” Sofia Acevedo, Product Operations Specialist based in Bogota
The celebration of Filipino American Heritage Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587. Being the country's second-largest self-reported Asian ancestry group, Flilipino history is an integral part of the fabric of the United States. This month at Twilio we will celebrate and bring awareness to the significant role Filipinos have played in American history.
