Today we celebrate a milestone for the long-term family ownership of the LEGO Group and KIRKBI A/S (the family-owned holding and investment company that owns 75% of the LEGO Group). Thomas Kirk Kristiansen, the most active fourth-generation owner, is taking over as Chairman of KIRKBI A/S from his father Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, who is celebrating his 50th anniversary since officially joining the LEGO Group. This marks the last and formal step in the gradual generational handover from the 3rd to the 4th generation of the Kirk Kristiansen family. Groundbreaking news! 👏 Yesterday we broke ground on our new carbon-neutral run factory in Chesterfield County in Virginia, USA which will help delight millions of children with LEGO® play across the Americas. We also committed US$ 1 million to support local organisations that provide #LearningThroughPlay experiences to children from disadvantaged backgrounds in collaboration with The LEGO Foundation. In addition to having a solar plant expected to match the site’s total annual energy requirements, the factory’s final landscape design will be inspired by the creativity of local kids through our #BuildTheChange programme.
