Training is often overlooked or skipped as people are thrown into their work center with more questions than answers.

For each position there was a standard training and checklists to make sure that everyone did the training correctly

The worst thing about Target job training is that they constantly belittle you and tell you of your mistakes but not give you clear instructions on how to operate basic tools needed for the job

After being trained and working for 8 months in the same position I was suddenly told I was doing a terrible job, even though my yearly review suggested otherwise. I was harassed on a daily business about how I was not doing my job right even though I did exactly what I was told.

I received a 1 day orientation. They did a poor job about training me for a cashier that day, but after telling my supervisor that I had not received any cashier training, they gave me a 30min training which consisted of reading a booklet and practicing using different methods of payments, applying WIC, etc. Afterwards, I shadowed someone and that was very helpful. Although initially I did not feel completely confident, as I worked as a cashier for a few days, I got used to working as a cashier and got faster at it. It just took me a few days and several weeks to learn all of the shortcuts to use the computer.

You are trained by fellow employees. If someone down the line was not trained correctly, the errors just keep happening. If a department is short staffed, you will be moved in to that spot whether you know what you are doing or not and you just wing it. They are not very big on cross training.
