      Product Manager Interview

      Feb 26, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Medford, MA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Agero (Medford, MA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

I applied to a position and received a call from the recruiter pretty immediately. I spoke to the hiring manager for both of us to determine if it was a high level fit and we proceeded with an in person interview with the manager, in person interview with 5 peers of my manager, one interview with the Product Management and Marketing Leader and several Q&A sessions between the recruiter and myself. It was a couple month process but we both performed the due diligence necessary to be sure this was the right role for me at Agero. The interviewers were insightful, frank and delightful. They provided information about the company, the opportunity and my role. I truly enjoyed each and every interview! After I accepted there was a background check and discussion of health benefits so that I could give my employer notice and ensure I had no gap in health insurance coverage. The background check took 2 weeks because I have lived in many locations and had a name change.

      Question 1

They delved into my Product Management, Software Development and Agile experience leading to a shared understanding of how I could contribute to the Agero journey in these areas.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Agero in Nov 2024

      Interview

A total of 5 conversations. 1 with HR then 4 individual conversations that are ~45minutes each. The final step is a ~20 minute presentation to a panel (made up of the group you spoke with). The presentation will make/break whether you get an offer. They will ask you to spend no more than 1-2 hours prepping, but critique and expect more of you. They will say nothing will be saved, but later ask for a copy of the presentation. They will ask you to generalize and/or NOT share proprietary/NDA-protected information but later say your presentation wasn't detailed enough. For a smaller and largely unknown organization, they treat the process and candidates like they are a FAANG company. To my fellow PdM's, save yourself the time and the headache. Avoid Agero. Do not answer their LinkedIn messages. Do not provide them with free labor. Save the effort for an actual FAANG company.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Interviews were very conversational and focused on 1) how you work with engineering, and 2) how much you know about the space you're applying for, such as trends, etc.

      Product Manager Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Medford, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Agero (Medford, MA) in May 2018

      Interview

The interview process took place over three months. They started with the typical recruiter phone screening, which was describing the company, the role and covering basic benefits/potential salary ranges. Next was an on-site interview, which took place over four hours with four different people. They got back to me about a week later to say that they didn't want to hire me for the position I was interviewing for, but they had another one in mind. So I had two follow-up screening calls with additional people, and then another on-site interview that took three hours. I got lots of positive feedback and the hiring manager reached out to me at one point to tell me that he thought I was great and that due to summer scheduling, he was hoping I could hang tight for "a few days" while they made their decision between me and one other candidate. After that, they disappeared. For a month. I reached out countless times to ask whether they had made a decision, and after multiple attempts each time would hear back from the recruiter who would say things like "not yet, but we had great feedback about you" only to disappear for ages again. After such a promising and involved start, they sure disappeared fast. I finally heard, almost 3 months to the day after the first interview, that they offered the position to someone else. I honestly wasn't surprised at that point, having been ghosted for a month, but was annoyed that I had wasted three months and many hours on a company that couldn't even be considerate enough to tell me "thanks but no thanks".

Thanks very much for your feedback. We are always working to improve the candidate experience and have recently hired “ambassadors” with that in mind. We’re sorry that you ultimately were not chosen for a position but would be happy to discuss your experience offline as it sounds like a very unique situation. Half hour phone interview discussing work history and the company. Also dug into the team dynamics and where the PM team was headed in the future. The recruiter had referred me to the Director, but there was no response to my follow up.
