I had a really lovely initial phone interview with HR about my work experience, during which they described the role and office environment. They informed me that the person in the role being advertised had been in that position for years and was staying with the company in the same role in a different department. We arranged a subsequent Teams call for an interview with the team lead. The interview conducted via Teams was unpleasant. From the outset of the interview, he came across as quite dismissive and disinterested. I was informed that the person currently in the role was managing nearly double the number of projects compared to what was advertised for the position. The interviewer said we didn’t really need to discuss my work experience as he had read my CV; instead, he spent a considerable amount of time talking about himself and how many years of experience he had. Additionally, he mentioned that he had suffered a back injury and had worked from his bed for six weeks. It was strongly implied that this was his expectation for his employees.
