I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Equitable Advisors (New York, NY)
Interview
Truth be told, I prepared heavily for this interview and was excited especially since they advocate for diversity. However, the interview process the opposite. The first stage of the interview process was fine. The second stage fell off. In the diverse interview process, I was the only POC. I was also denied an interview (when I was in the zoom call with other people interviewing as well) because I didn't have a tie on. Their Financial Consultant said, "I don't interview people who don't have ties on." So take that as you will. I was told to reschedule, but the work environment seems focused on the value of what you're wearing versus what you actually bring to the table.
This was hurtful in many ways, primarily in devaluing someone based on what they wear and can afford. However, they can enforce whichever clothing policies they prefer as it is their company, it just is not my cup of tea.
Side note: I came in a dress shirt, that wasn't wrinkled or dirty. It was full-sleeved, all I was missing was a tie and possibly a suit
