Below is the exact message I sent the CEO after deciding not to continue with the interview process:
Hello,
I’m writing to express my disappointment in the way Everlight Solar conducted its interview process for the remote Executive Assistant position.
I advanced through multiple rounds, and unfortunately, each stage felt increasingly unprofessional. What initially drew me to Everlight Solar was your mission: to change lives, help others, and foster a culture where team members go above and beyond. However, my experience directly contradicted these values.
Despite clearly applying for the Executive Assistant role, I was unexpectedly interviewed for an entirely different position. I communicated that I had not applied for that role, yet the interviews continued as if that concern hadn’t been acknowledged. This lack of clarity and disregard for my stated intentions left me confused and frustrated.
Each interview felt impersonal and robotic. Interviewers read entirely off scripts with little to no genuine engagement. In all rounds, the interviewer briefly turned on their camera to say, “I’m not AI,” then turned it off for the remainder of the call while expecting me to keep mine on. This dynamic didn’t feel respectful, collaborative, or aligned with the values your company claims to uphold.
Additionally, interviews frequently went over the scheduled time without notice or consideration, something I’ve since learned is a common issue reflected in many Glassdoor reviews. Like others, I felt undervalued and misled by a process that lacked professionalism, transparency, and mutual respect.
Lastly, and perhaps most disappointing, was the messaging used by your team, which included telling candidates that “900 people applied for this role, and you’re lucky to have made it this far.” This kind of language is deeply unprofessional. It doesn’t inspire confidence or excitement and instead it conveys arrogance and a lack of basic respect for the time and effort candidates invest in the process.
I’m not reaching out in frustration, but rather in hopes that this feedback can help improve how future candidates are treated. If Everlight Solar is truly committed to changing lives and lifting others up, that commitment should be evident from the very first interaction.
Thank you for your time.
