A recruiter from Liberty National contacted me on the phone, asking if I was still seeking employment. She said that her manager saw my resume on Monster, and wanted me as a sales, supervising, or insurance agent. I found that rather strange, considering my resume on Monster was heavily geared towards biomedical research, and those job openings she said that were available don't seem to draw on my skill set. Regardless, she asked some questions about my work experience and my resume, and I agreed to an interview for the next day (first time job seeker, needed the experience). Did some research through this site, and discover before the interview that I did not want to work for them. I'm not a sales person, period.
But like said, I needed some experience in dealing with interviews, so I went along. I got there a little late (I know, I know, not a good habit), signed in and filled out some paperwork. After a couple of minutes, the manager called me in for 1 on 1 interview. He talked about the company, a little bit about my resume, why I would be a good fit for the company, and what I am looking for. Knowing that this place has a pyramid scheme vibe to it, I asked them about their sales tactic and audience, and what role was he looking for me to fill in. For the last question, his response was strange. He asked what did his secretary told me, to which I said sales and supervising (forgot about insurance at the time). He said that right now, we're looking for sales people, and that they have a rigorous system to help those who have no experience in sales to be successful.
At that point, I put my foot down, and told him that I'm not interested in sales. I'm not strong at that, I'm probably better at supervising. With that, the manager told me that everybody in the company must start in sales before moving onto other roles, and ended the interview there.
I got no offer, obviously, but I would say that the experience wasn't bad. It was quick and easy, so if you really want to work for this company, you got that going for you.
