Gusto Customer Care Representative interview questions

Applied online and a week later got a 30 minute phone interview. The next week I moved onto a written test. Basically they tested you on knowledge from their website on how to handle different situations. Two weeks after that I had a 2.5 hour in-person interview at their Denver office. A few days after the interview they came back for references. I had constant communication with the recruiter and when it seemed like I had got the job, a day later a random person emailed me a scripted response saying they went with another candidate. It was really strange because the whole process took about 5 weeks and to end on such an informal note did not seem like their goal of being "transparent".

A “sneak peak” assessment is given prior to the interview to see how you handle customer questions. They give you a short tour of the facility then place you in a conference room. 3 people will come through for 1:1 interviews. One person asks you more logistical questions (tell me about a time...”) based on experience and goes over your sneak peak assessment, another will see if your values align with Gusto’s through a more relaxed and conversational setting, and the last person asks you about your long term career plans and explains the job. They get back to you in 24 hours with an offer/no offer.
