The interview process at ZenPayroll was not incredibly easy, but it was a really rewarding experience. I was referred to the role by a friend who was in contact with a few employees at ZenPayroll and after the first introduction, we had scheduled our first phone screen within a few hours. I was impressed immediately with how quickly everyone responded to interested candidates.
From the phone screen through my final interview, it was incredibly apparent how seriously everyone took this process and it was such a reflection of company values that for them, hiring is expanding their family and is one of the most important things that they do. I felt like everyone I interviewed with was really interested in learning about me and what I could bring to the team, rather than just interviewing me because they had to.
My interview went in three stages, I did an initial phone screen, came in for a quick chat with the hiring manager, and then had a full day interview with the team after that. For some, that might seem like a lot of time to be talking to the company, but I really appreciated how intentional it was and it did give me the opportunity to see how the office functioned and decide if this was somewhere I wanted to work.
The take home assignment was difficult but it also gave me a lot of insight into what I would be doing in the role. Yes, I still had my own job at the time to manage and yes, it was a challenge to make sure that I made time to do my current work and put together something that reflected what I could do but it wasn't a turn off to me that I had to do it and it was nice to be able to show what I could do outside of just talking about it during interviews.
The fact that multiple members of the team took hours out of their day to talk to me and did such thorough follow up after my interview process was over made me even more confident in the decision I made to join the team.
