Had a phone screen with some HR rep, which went great.
Got a phone/video screen scheduled a few days later. This started and ended poorly.
- The interviewer called me 10 minutes late, and neither seemed prepared to conduct an interview nor practiced in conducting one himself.
- The interviewer made it clear they had no notion of what position I was even applying for or what my background was.
- I was given roughly 10-15 minutes to solve the problem while being interrupted with questions while I was already talking out my thinking and trying to focus on solving the problem. This happened multiple times.
- The interviewer tried to be "helpful" by typing in some static data I'd need to run some tests for the challenge. When I got compiler errors bc of this "help", I wasn't offered an explanation that he'd been typing data w/ incorrect syntax. Had to find that one out myself. Thanks >_>
- The interviewer ended up cutting the interview short, stating it was so I could get my own questions answered, but subsequently cut it short again so he could leave roughly 15 minutes early.
About a day after having this wonderful experience I got an email stating they were not interested (surprise surprise) and asking me not to reply with any questions or followup. That was not my plan, but came off as more than a little rude especially given the experience I had just had.
I would not recommend putting yourself through this process. I'm quite surprised at how much of a time waste this was given the good things I'd heard about this company. I'm more than willing to admit I'm not a perfect engineer and not everything is a good fit, but this seemed to be a blatant waste of time and showed and apparent lack of care and disrespect for my time and theirs. Not putting your best face forward here, Gusto.
