The recruiter from Marqeta reached out and I talked with her then the head of product design. After that they set up an inperson interview.
When I went in for my in person interview I had 1:1s with 5 different people which was a 4 hour interview. I really enjoyed the people I interviewed with and for the most part it seemed as though we were aligned in most areas. The only off feeling I got in terms of personality was with the Head of Product Design.
The reasoning behind that was they mentioned on the B2B side of the platform they do not do user research, nor do they see a future where that is possible. I have never experienced this comment from someone who mentioned they were bringing design thinking into the company. They also seemed to dislike that I enjoyed utilizing a design process, yet in all my interviews they said the goal was to bring on a person who could help them define a deisgn process as they had not done that yet.
Everyone was always so busy, which is typical for the startup life style and I'd be completely okay if they admitted that. However, people would tell me they are really busy and in a growth period so they sometimes work weekends, but then would follow up with "I don't think your job would require that of you though." I highly doubt that would be the case. I don't even mind working extra if the job is right, then I am passionate about working hard to create the product.
