Toast Inc Software Engineer interview questions

There are several interviews most of them technicals, so be ready to show off your coding skills. Aaron Kingston did a really good job as a recruiter 👏 explaining in detail the process and always keeping you updated, making you feel that you are not alone/lost in the interview process. The process was fully remote, so make sure you have a good internet connection.

I applied for a position on LinkedIn. There are three stages in the interview process: 1. Recruiter reached out to me and went over my resume and why I am looking for a new role. Went over steps of hiring process. 2. First round interview was with an engineer on Toast and was a LC medium problem. Asked questioned regarding Toast and projects the interviewer is working on. 3. Made it to onsite. Onsite round consists of four rounds. First round was coding round which is not LC problem but related with problems Toast is trying to solve. Was allowed to use outside resources since needed to use other Java library outside of the basic data structure libraries. Interview with two software engineers. Ask clarifying questions. They really help to get you to pass if you are close. Second round was an interview with Product Manager and another senior engineer and talk about your work experience and STAR-based questions. Third round was a system design. This round had mixed feelings. Problem is related with what Toast does. Interview with a Tech Lead and another engineer. Tech lead didn't seem like to want to be there and didn't feel interactive like what one would expect for a system and design interview. Fourth round is with hiring manager and more STAR based questions. Manager was friendly and nice. Heard back in 48 hours in regards to feedback.
