Although electrotherapy was established as an effective, non-pharmaceutical treatment for pain in the 1960s, it remained largely confined to niche use and underutilized in routine care. Founded in 1996, Altivera recognized the opportunity to bring this proven technology to the more than 50 million adults in the U.S. suffering from chronic pain — making it more accessible and practical in everyday use.
Through the 2000s, Altivera helped bring electrotherapy into mainstream care by more seamlessly connecting physicians, patients, and therapy. By enabling prescription-strength treatment in the home, we drove more consistent use and empowered patients to take a more active role in recovery beyond the clinic.
As our portfolio expanded, so did our ability to tailor treatment. A broad range of electrotherapy modalities including TENS for pain relief, NMES for muscle re-education, and IFC for deeper stimulation gave clinicians the flexibility to address acute, chronic, and rehabilitative needs across stages of care.
Altivera then expanded into orthopedic bracing, traction, and temperature and compression therapies, creating a more complete approach to pain management and recovery that supports patients across every care setting.
Today, Altivera has helped millions of patients reduce pain, restore function, and regain control of their daily lives through proven, non-invasive therapies that support better movement, stronger recovery, and sustained progress.
