Toxic Environment
Poor Communicaion
Poor working conditions
Incompetent leadership
Little employee appreciation
Impossible longevity working within the team
This department internally is most poorly ran department in the company. You are essentially a peon in the pecking order. As the companies biggest money makers, the expectations are rediculous compared to how you are treated and affirmed. There is ZERO and I mean ZERO visibility and understanding within this team if you have any issues. You are expected to make 60 calls, bring on new accounts and revenue like any sales position but you are NEVER affirmed by upper management. You are met with constant head scratching moments. Your pricing team has random updates that you are never notified of which makes huge differences with customers which lose customers daily. You will be met with constant poor service issues, and no one in the operations team will ever be met with any represcussions. Your customer service team doesn’t know how sales works, but simply how to pass random territory issues to the account reps on a whim. They aren’t equipped with a sales look up function to even see who the representative handling the account is. You are expected to be a part time pick-ups agent and handle making pick ups because there is so much turn over due to people quickly finding out how outlandish this company works is. You will be expected to collect on accounts, but god forbid that central Transport makes a mistake and picks up incorrect frieght or wrong BOL upon pickup and then places your collections decides to do something.. and place your customers shipment on hold until paid up front before moving again. The collections team also randomly decides when they want customers to be placed on a credit hold. It could be if they haven’t made payment on the 31st day, or the 60th or the 90th or the 100th day of non payment. There is no rhyme or reason, just some customers get “lucky”. Operations team has ZERO accountability. Central Transport is the “get what you pay for” service. Oh your freight was destroyed and damaged? Oh sorry.. rates are low and that means so is our liability.. tough luck. Here’s 21 dollars for your 500 dollar shipment. It’s a true slap in the face for customers. Claims team, they essentially just are there to tell customers “according to our rules tariff”.... “we screwed you” and so forth. The bill corrections team, Will not reason with anything but strictly photographic evidence even when we know we are pulling one over on the customer. You will be expected to do ALL of these things as “account representatives” in the inside team.. you will wear many hats. Well.. basically all of them except for CEO. With the amount of work that you put in after this cycle.. even if you DO hit all of your sales goals.. you may NOT get paid out bonus for these. You’ll never know anyways.. considering you get paid out on bonus for numbers from 60 days prior. And these numbers could drop in that time, due to unpaid invoices, invoice disputes, damages causing the customer not to pay, late transits over 15 days for a 3 day “estimated” shipment and the customer just doesn’t feel right paying because they already lost their supplier, or customer for that shipment and profit already. And when you question why these bonus’ are not on your check based off of numbers given to you if you track it.. they have ZERO answers. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong but they have zero clue. But because those who track the numbers can not be challenged.. they will not give any proof to you aside from an excel spreadsheet with more information that makes ZERO sense. The “competitive” bonus structure is comical considering when in meetings about such issues, the heads of the sales leadership and VPs RDS’ have NO idea how to even explain any of the issues for you. I find this eyebrow raising.. considering you EARN this bonus and don’t always get compensated or an explanation for your efforts in the face of all the issues listed above. There is ZERO and I mean ZERO communication between department heads to make the whole process more efficient... communication is the largest part of sales, and this company has none aside from little increments of what they call a “conference call” and what I call a “read from a sheet without understanding anything” either. This company does not see the “hard working employee” here. They see only numbers and if they get compensated in some way or another just know you DONT matter. They will cut you one way or another in effortless fashion if they have to make numbers fit for them. You can expect a dollar raise a year, until they think you make too much, then expect a 50 cent raise. The HR department, VP of sales, Sales Admin, and upper management in general, have no control, or even any idea of what these hard working people deal with daily. I’d argue it’s more stressful and more demanding than what any of them could fathom. This team has been beaten down, told they aren’t producing enough, have their bonus money they earned thrown up to a “be surprised” if you get it, and worn to a spec of dust daily with no where to reach out for real “help” due to lack of understanding internally from the company of the day to day of inside sales. They appoint those who will mindlessly say yes to upper management and not fight for the department and what they do daily. They do NOT afirm, instead they threaten as a tactic to tell you if you don’t do what they say, then you will be dealt with discipline wise. That is a joke in itself considering that the HR department doesn’t quite know much of anything internally either. In this department, you do not have a voice. You are not valued as an employee, you are not treated as a valued person. You constantly will be stressed to the fullest, without any hope for help because there is no where to turn except within. If I could save ONE and just ONE person from joining this company for sales, I hope this review does it. It is everything you need to know.. and is TRUTHFUL. And is everything that each and every employee apart of this team is thinking but too afraid to say or too afraid of change due to it being their first job out of college. The culture is toxic. Gossip and high school drama is what you can expect because the environment is so negative it can have people who care about one another truly at each other’s throats. I truly believed in central Transport for a majority of the time working there, and heard horror stories and dismissed them. BUT.. when it finally happened to myself, I understood what they meant. I do hope that central Transport can turn this around and truly VALUE its sales workers who bust their behinds every day and give them affirmation when they do a good job. Truly see employees like you used to in this department when there was a great manager there who truly went to bat for his team with knowledge and useful info and positive vibes. Give your employees more than a 2 foot by 1 foot cutting board for a “Christmas gift”. Give them an actual viable and affordable healthcare program that’s not from the owners doing which although is blue cross blue shield, is astronomical comparatively in the marketplace because the insurance agency is made by the owner. Give your employees jean days for FREE... not for 5 dollars each to donate and make “central Transport’s” name look good for donating when the company itself doesn’t donate a dime to match what its employees raise for causes. Give your employees hope and communication within and make things more efficient. Give them a fighting chance to WANT to do good instead of resenting and having to be satisfied with their paychecks and the fact that they have a job. Give the “little people” a voice and stop drowning them out because you have the power.
