Pros

Casual dress and office setup are pretty nice.

Cons

Extreme amounts of nepotism. where the company favorites are not based upon skill as am employee at all. Managers often have no skills in developing newer employees. While some employees truly are experts in their field, I was alarmed by the amount of employees who were very good at making it seem that they knew very well about what they were talking about, but in reality knew very little. The company pretends that it is "horizontal" which just allows this strange hierarchy to make poor decisions controlling and managing the company, and somehow people believe this. Chatham touts as being a very purpose oriented company, but that does not truly seem to be the case from within. The work often seems botched or that they client would do very well elsewhere. The so-called customized solutions Chatham offers are generally not very customized and highly redundant. Simply put, there really is not much to take pride in here.

Not what I expected

Pros

Bright group of people that really want to change markets. Every day is a challenge and the opportunities to learn are vast.

Cons

Employees more concerned with their own egos than they are working as a team to efficiently and effectively get items accomplished for the client. Had a Big 4 environment and work expectation but not the salaries, benefits, or flexibility that goes along with Big 4. No sense of consistent guidelines or processes, so there was very "Wild West" and chaotic feel to the office. Felt there were constant fire drills and stress, due to the lack of processes, governance, and accountability. There were a few key people that were bottlenecks that were extremely overworked while others slipped by with the bare minimum which was extremely frustrating to watch first hand. Finally, I don't feel the company ever actually acted on internal problems. The same conversation would be had for months on end with no follow through and no resolution, so the problem chain seemed constant with no clear path on how to make issues better longer term.

Pros

Lots of freedom. Book clubs, hack weeks, a free coffee machine, standing desks - this place tries to make you feel comfortable. It also lets you work on what interests you. Your immediate boss truly cares if you're happy at work.

Cons

Productivity is very low. Chatham seems to have adopted a low stress, low productivity, low expectations, low salary culture. I've never heard a manager reprimand an employee. This culture is pushing high-achievers out because there's little incentive to perform past expectations. The lack of upward mobility also contributes to this.
